1987 JDM Levin Build - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #80592 29 posts Started by gt4st205
Hey guy's, figured I'd start a project thread. I just picked up this Levin after 7 months of searching for one. They are pretty hard to find with a quality chassis this far north in Japan. This is due to heavy snow, and they use salt here. It needs a lot of body work and could use some TLC on the engine bay and the interior. It only has 126,000 KM's on it, and already has some work (gauges, POS sparco seat, coilovers) As of right now, it will be getting stripped down, banged out and painted dark purple. This thread will be going for the next few years, but we all have to start somewhere!

im looking forward to this project!
The paint and bodywork will not be done until march, so there will not be many updates until then.
gotta love Japanese Tuners and their favorite mod tool... Zipties... haha

Good luck man I cant wait to see the finished product!

Kevin
Thanks man! You're not a true tuner until you use zip-ties and/or Duct Tape! LOL
Awesome car! Can't wait for updates.

I can't wait to give updates! Come march this will be my dedicated money pit. We have to wait until winter here though, It's way to humid to paint. Then it's off to get a roadworthy test... then the "track only" stuff might fall into it somehow... wink.gif

pandakid- Love your 86 man! I'm going to be completely new to RWD, but there are many tracks here that offer classes, so I will be hitting that up!
thanks a good site is club4ag.com
Yeah, I checked the out, It's okay. I prefer aeu86.org
Some update: Decided to go traditional "Panda" on the paint. I am having some trouble finding some headlights and a stock front bumper though. The us market has kicked up the price for the whole front end on this car (fixed headlights were mainly available on the JDM ones). Body work is mostly done though! After the bumper gets in the rest of the black paint will go on.

Aww, was looking forward to the dark purple. Looks good though!

Looks great, i'd love to own one but in the midwest it is impossible to find one without salt ever touching it

yes, as long as it's 25 years old.
Love the panda paint scheme. smile.gif

I had a JDM Levin that I used to do a lot of track days with here in Aus. I miss it heaps!

Pulling the Initial D Trueno look huh? Going to swap the front end with Trueno or keep Levin?

Not really going for the Initial D look. The Panda paint was a stock option from the factory. I prefer the Levin front end.

Thanks! Still waiting on my headlights to get in, any day now. After that it's just a matter of getting it all tuned up so it can pass the Japanese roadworthy test (JCI). Hopefully it's done by the end of this month, I've hit a few snags that has put it past my originally planned end date by march...
Update: car is finally legal! 10 months and $$$$ later!

There is, but I have yet to start tearing not it. Unknown exhaust (cat back), Unknown coil overs, various gauges, CAI (HKS). Still working oon a full list, the Japanese guy I bought it from doesn't know english very well.
