alarm instal help - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #8028 34 posts Started by Cormudgen
Ok,

I began installing my alarm today and have a couple of questions. I have Coomer's wirin diagram

http://www.6gc.net/misc/images/other/rs650...all_diagram.jpg

but am not sure exactly where those wires are. I have removed the drivers side kick panel and have found about 4 different harness down there. For example at least 2 or 3 of the harness have a black and white wire.

A specific example of what I'm taling about is Coomer says in his diagram for the starte output wire coming off the alarm should go into the "black/white wire @ ignition harness" how do i know which one of those harness is down there is the ignition one?

Also in another post someone said
"Door locks are negative trigger.
In the left kickpanel blue/black is lock and blue is unlock. "

What harness would this be in?

Thanks
Cormudgen

The ignition harness is higher up than the kick panel, and is at the rear of your ignition switch. Here are a couple pics to help you out.

As far as door locks, I don't have the factory ones, so I'm not sure. If they're negative triggered though, when you lock your doors, the lock wire should give ground for a brief moment. When you unlock the doors, the unlock wire should give ground as well. You can use a multimeter to test these connections.

If you've got more specific questions, just ask, and I'll do my best to help. >smile.gif>

You guys had to get those up-town fancy alarms. I got the Bulldog alarm from WM. Easiest install i ever did. Just hook the power wire to the battery and attach the alarm box. the run the led light through the firewall. End of story. Probly doesnt work as well as yours, but it beeps when i press the button so im happy. >smile.gif>
Don't know about theirs, but my alarm unlocks the doors for me. There are also extra outputs for anything I want to add(like rolling a window/sunroof up/down...). Not to mention the starter kill(car won't start without the alarm being turned off).

All the extra wires are for the features. And installing it yourself is the best option if you are competent with electronics. Almost all shops use the same locations for their alarm installs, which just makes it easier for theives. Doing it yourself you can hide things wherever you feel like it.

wut type of Alarm do u have coomer.

All I have in this world is my Balls and my Word and I'm not breaking em for no one,- Tony MontanaTeam 6gc 2005
thanks, coomer. that was the info i needed. i hooked up everyhthing but the stuff that goes into that harness tonight and got my keyless entery working fine. decided to wait for your reply to do the igniton kill and what not. it was workin beautifulyh till just now when i left hom i noticed that i kicked a wire i left hagning. i didnt think i knocked loose so just tucked it in and kept driving. stopped somehwer for 5 min and then began the drive home. 5 min into the drive the lights started dimming and whatnot if i put it in neutral and hit brakes. figured to much power was getttin drawn so i just continuily downshifted instead of brakin all the way home. once i got home the battery was completly dead. i'm to tired now but am going to look into the culprit tommorw.

here is how i have it wired as far as power is concerned though

Red:straight to battery +(with fuse)
Yellow: to ignition fuse in drivers side pull panel(also have remote turn on for amp going here)
Black, grounded to chasis

anything wrong with that you see? like i said i havent investigated yet and intend to do so tommorw. i may hve just kicked something loose.

anyone have any thoughts on my last post?

i'm about to go play with it right now so i'll let you know the outcome

I have an Autopage RS-650 that I really like a lot. >smile.gif>

Cormudgen, did you get your problem figured out?

New Toyota project coming soon...
If the battery is dead it sounds like the alternator isn't working. How that relates with the alarm I dunno. I haven't installed mine yet so I'm not very knowledgeable about it.
ok i got it workin and im almost embarrased to admit to my proelm(yet happy it wasnt somethgn as expensive as an alt)

when workin i disconected the battery as not to get popped in the head with an airbag
later that night i set the postive battey wire back on the termial to test: but never screwed it down

apparently last night when all the probs happened the wire got bumped off b/c of riding over some train tracks.
Like you said just be glad it wasn't something broken!

Coomer, you said you don't have factory locks. I'm getting ready to do this same thing with my alarm install. Any advice? Any tricks getting it to work with the alarm?

That would be great if you have one handy, but don't take your door panels off just for that.

Thanks

Thanks coomer!

Ok, one more ?

I bought a SPAL lock kit. Each lock servo has 5 wires coming from it. One plug with 2 wires and one with 3. The 2 wire plug contains the actuator wires. When you apply power to them the actuator goes one direction. When you reverse the polarity it goes the other. While you apply current the actuator is still 'pushing or pulling'. I would assume it just needs to do this momentarily to get the lock over center then it should relax.

The other 3 wires are a switch with one common terminal and one that goes to ground when the actuator is out and one thats closed when the actuator is in. There is also a little control box that everything plugs into but there are no control wires coming out of the box. Basically its designed to unlock both doors when you unlock one.

I would like to maintain this functionality, but add a switch to lock/unlock and also I would like my alarm to be able to actuate the locks. The switch is easy, I think I just need a 2 way momentary rocker switch wired in with the switching plug. The alarm I'm not sure what to do with. Are its outputs for door locks just a momentary switching signal? Or does it actually have a reversing 12V output?

The directions I got with the COMPUSTAR alarm are pretty much useless.

(I can figure all this out on my own, but thought I would ask before I spend a lot of time working on it)

Thanks!
Ok, I pulled a good one. I came home for christmas with the intention of doing my alarm install over a couple days in our nice heated shop. But I forgot my shop manual. DOH! I think I can figure out most of the wires myself but I'll likely have questions over some of them. I'd appreciate it if you guys could help me out. I'm getting ready to go work on it again, I'll post some specific questions shortly.
i'll be happy to help. as i just finsiehd mine not long ago it should still be fresh in my head.

John,
My locks only have two wires coming out of them, so I'm really not sure about the extra three wires, and what they do, but as far as wiring up those two lock/unlock wires to your alarm, this is the diagram I used:

Also, about the door lock switches, I'm not sure, but if you find out, please let me know, as I'm going to be adding some door lock switches to my car soon.

Sorry I'm not much help with the door locks, but if you've got other questions, post them and we'll try to help. >smile.gif>

I think the diagram you supplied pretty much is the lock controller that I have. It has 2 relays and appears to be wired just like that. That part I think I can figure out.

I started everything tonight. I took the dash all apart and mounted the siren. Where did you guys put the alarm 'brain'?? I'm thinking it should go right behind the instrument cluster. There seems to be plenty of room there and thats probably closest to everything it needs to connect to. I'm really afraid some of the wires are going to be too short and I'll have to extend them. Thats going to be a huge headache.

Ok, there are a bunch of small wire harnesses for sensors and lock/unlock and the like but I think I have them pretty much figured out. Most of my questions lie within the main harness.

Parking light wire: I'm assuming this should go to the trigger wire for the park light relay if there is one? If not it goes directly to the park lights...which is it?

Accessory: I'm thinking this goes to the accessory position on the ignition switch. Is this correct?

Starter kill: There are several relays wired in already and this goes into one of them. How does all this starter kill/anit grind business work?

Ignition: To the on position on the ignition switch???

Ok now on to the other harnesses....

Light output (250mA): I'm guessing this goes to a headlight relay so the headlights flash when the system goes off?

Status output (250mA): No idea.

Ignition output (250mA): No idea. Thought this was covered in the main harness.

Accessory output (250mA): No idea.

Starter output (250mA): No idea. Thought this was covered in the main harness.

Rearm (250mA): ??

Disarm (250mA): ??

I think thats most of it. The further into this I get the harder I'm stressing. I know its not out of my capabilities, I just hope I have the patience to do it all.

Thanks a lot for your help guys!
ok, i'm super tired right now and dont have any of my info i used with me. off the top of your head it seems i may only be able to answer one or two of your questinos.

i mounted my "brain" behind the stock stero/cdplayer. there is more than plenty or room back there. yes i did need to extend some wires but didnt find that to be a big deal.

the parking light i just tapped into the fuse in the drivers side fuse panel. i'm rather sure it is labled "tails" but may be getting that confused with my 5th gen celica.

sorry i cant be of mor help but its way past time for bed
I totally understand. I'm going to be as well. Maybe we can figure more out in the morning. Thanks.
I mounted my brain above the center vents in the center console, and there was plenty of room. >smile.gif>

Parking light wire: I don't remember exactly which wire I attached this too, but it was a wire in the driver's kick panel. I used to have it hooked up to the parking light fuse as well, and that worked fine for me.

Accessory: Not hooked up on my car.

Starter kill: Check this out. Very helpful.

Ignition: I had two ignition wires. One went to a blue/red wire at the ignition harness. Another went to a black/orange wire at the ignition harness.

Light output (250mA): I'm guessing that this is actually meant to power a SPDT relay to turn on your dome light when you unlock the doors for a minute or so, or until the car is started. If so, you want to use this diagram:

The negative door trigger on our cars is a red/white wire that gives ground when either door is opened, and +12 volts when both doors are closed.

Status output (250mA): I have no idea either. Your manual should explain this wire, and the light output as well. This wire will go to a relay or a low power circuit though.

Ignition output (250mA): Not sure on this either...your manual should explain it as well. This wire will go to a relay or a low power circuit though.

Accessory output (250mA): Not sure on this either...again...this wire goes to a relay or a low power circuit. I'm guessing that maybe this wire and the previous one are auxilary outputs to control things like power windows and stuff like that, but try to find out from the manufacturer or your manual.

Starter output (250mA): I'm guessing that this goes to terminal 85 of a SPDT relay. 86 would go to ground(or +12 volts if this output is negative), 30 would get fused +12volt power from the battery, and 87 would go to your starter wire in your ignition harness, which was black/white for me. Not sure on any of this though. Your manual should tell you what these things do.

Rearm and disarm are probably for interfacing this unit with a factory alarm. Again, your manual should be of help in determining what these do.

Hope this helps. >smile.gif> Let us know if you've got anything else to ask. >smile.gif>

Ok, now we're getting some where. I've got the starter kill thing figured out. Does anybody know whats with igntion 1 and ignition 2? I've seen that in other stuff online, but I just have the one large ignition wire and then the 250mA output. The more I think about it, I bet the 250mA outputs for starter, ignition, and accessory, are just outputs to turn different stuff on when ever one of the above conditions is present. Probably not really necessary.

Well, I guess I'll just hook up what I know and see what works. Thanks guys.

It came with a manual, but its obviously not meant to be installed by anyone thats not factroy trained. So far every thing with the alarm is working, but I haven't gotten everything hooked up to try the remote start yet. I haven't quite gotten the door locks finished yet either.
