Tried tinting the ST205 tails masking the clear corners so they stayed clear:



But ended up changing them back:

the key for blacking them out is re-sanding and using a compound to make it shine =D

How about making them Red? Like candy apple?



Toyota gave us defined tail lights. Not many cars have bezels that separate their tail lights. But NYp8tBaller07 is right. Start off with gentle coats, try not to splatter it. Use VHT Nightshades, do even coats and then clear coat it. After it's dry for a day or two, go over it with a quality wax and it'll shine! This also seals the paint and protects them.

how exactly do you remove niteshade? I tried it on my old turns, and it didnt just come right off for me lol

I did that too, from memory i masket up the indicator and reverse light section, gave it 3 coats, then removed the masking and gave a further 2. (this is using a mixture of 2pac clear and black, not the tail light tinting stuff you get from automotive shops.





The front indicators are clear lesnses with the reflective bit on the inside tinted.

Don't mind the water in the low. Some dirt got in, so I rinsed it out. Water has evaporated now.

Ur car looks so small against thoe girls.
But the tails def look good

IMO, non-tinted tails are better on any car on any color...

What did you guys do to prep the tail lights? Do you just clean them and dry them? Do you sand or buff them first? What Grit would you use

You could probably use some clear coat sandpaper to get rid of any fiesty dust bumps

Lol only 1 warning so far....and it was a hwy patrol who wasn't paying attention and almost rammed me from behind. Got to love hearing patrol squeel to a stop, then slap on the lights for his mess up. Shouldn't have been looking at the phone, I watched the whole thing from my rear mirror. Acted like I didn't know you couldn't black'em.

My car doesn't stand out to much, and since I've fixed the downpipe leak they don't pay much attention to me.

You can see them just fine during the day, and plenty bright at night.

I do have 12LED pods in them though...might be whats up.

For prep:

I sanded them with 320 grit, and cleaned them off with alcohol. Blew it off with compressed air, and went to spraying. Mine have 4 coats.

I still have to buff the clearcoat, just been to busy...but should buff out quite easy.

Thats part of the reason why I removed mine... the lights were dulled out due to the tint and I almost got rear-ended more times than I could count on two hands in a month... aaaaand I saw a pic of ST205 OEM tails with a black license plate panel and I loved it. Still need to finish these tails with some wet sand and some decent polish to get them shiny again. - any suggestions?

If you look at my build thread, you'll see the cleaner I used. You don't want to use anything that will leave a residue. With VHT you don't have to sand first, but I did a light sand anyway just to scuff the surface. 2000 grit works fine for this.

i only hit them with 1200 i think, then wax and grease remover obviously.
