Though I haven't dealt with that exact deck, I really, really like Pioneer head units. Their functionality is excellent, they're loaded with features for the price, and most of them sound good.

That amp is pretty good, but the Perfect is expensive and sq and spl aren't that great on it, and there are much better alternatives for the money.

New Toyota project coming soon...
Pioneer ... eeeewwww

eclipse is a very high end company, theyre head units and functionality are awsome, BUT i am willing to work the menus a little bit more to tune the sound seeing as how the basis of my music collection is all the same genre, i dont need to mess with levels that much. the pioneer unit has basically all the same ammenities of the higher end alpine and eclipse units, CD-R, MP3 and WMA compatabilities, 2 preamp out puts (i only need one so no biggy) 50X4 max output, 25X4 RMS. and it is about 140 bucks cheaper. i found the perfect 10.1d sub for $139.50, which is super cheap compared to similar products >smile.gif> and all the parts have a 1 year warranty, and the head unit has a 2 year warranty.

its got a built in one. plus my project MR2 has accumulated to around 12000 bucks over the next 4 years (which is when i project the project to be done), so im not really wanting to go blow more money on such a small part of the project as the sound system, which basically is only there to complete the package if i were to ever show the car, its going to be built as a track car, so i will be taking the sub out quite a bit... i guess the point im getting at is IMO i dont need anything more than just the built-in equalizer.

yea i realize that, but the fact still remains the sound system isnt one of the focal points of my setup i just need something that will sound as clean as possable for the money, i dont need a high-voltage, i dont need this thing to shatter glass, i just need it to sound good. and im only running 1 amp, so i dont need anymore than the 2 pre-outs that the pioneer unit has.

i am awesome
but thats the point, i wont be upgrading this system... its one one time shot i want something nice, but theres no need to make it insane, this car is still going to be a track driven race car. 1 sub, with a quick detach to take it out when racing, and 1 amp and a capacitor. thats already more weight than i want in the car in the first place, but i want it to be cruisable at the same time. also the MR2 is a VERY tricky car to get the sound right in because of the shape and size of the passanger compartment.

Some of you guys might cringe when i say this....but i have a Panasonic headunit that i wouldnt trade for any other unit ive ever used or seen. Its been extremely reliable, looks 10 times better than anything else on the market in my opinion, and it sounds crystal clear with more than enough power. I chose it after doing a really long search for something that would satisfy my musicians ear for sound quality, and i think it has a clearer EQ interface than most, even Pioneer. Heres a pic of one....

I cant say enough about it really, other than the fact that i think youd all be really suprised if you tried one...i think that Pioneers and Alpine and Clarion are all kinda overrated, and i really think that it outperforms almost anything with its sound quality and visual cleanliness. >wink.gif> So yea, trust me on this one and try it at Circuit City or something. Its sweet.

EDIT- I dont know if its possible in your MR2, but grab some 8 or 10 inch free-air subs if you want, and mount them somewhere so you dont have a heavy box to take out all the time and dont need any enclosure. Custom mount those bitc*es. (behind the seats, maybe?)

Hey if u wanna get the best for ur dollar check out these jvc's
user posted image

u can put 15 secs of video on them, and many still frames. u can customize like everything and u can create ur own opening sequence, screen saver, closing sequence
check them out at jvc.com it will show u all the things u can do

plus i hear jvc makes really good head units

i have a pioneer and ijust got it back from the repair shop after three long weeks of waiting. The buttons werent functionning correctly.

pioneer hasd alot of good and bad attributes. but depsite wut some people might think. they sound amazing. im willing to bet they compare in clearness with any other system.
they allow those auio files to manipulate and shape the eq anyway they want too.

but heres the bad. pioneer doesnt offer as many dfeatures as u would like, for instance the ability to turn the hz up in ur subs without having ur speakers increase in bass, thus soundind like garbage. they do however offer a feature to only operate the front speakers and the subs, it sounds good but for overall loudness u really need the rear speakers.

anyway in my mind pioneer is good but for 200 u can get better. i wish i would have shopped around on the internet(by the way dont go to a shop, thezeb.com and soundomain.com have incredible prices.)

if it were me i would go with the jvc again
excuse all the grammatical errors and trailed off sentences in my previous post. I had a late night, and im tired.

now i must go to work

ps- when i sed
Not sure how much this all cares anymore, but i use to work at bestbuy, and saw and overlooked eveyr returned transaction with head units, that and i played with them all alot. Pioneer are really good, I dont like them ,cause they read mp3's slow, but iv had 3 of them and there very easy to use. Sony just suck, always break and such, jvc same thing, not that greta eather. I personally have kenwood, it had the best preouts and well the best numbers for sound, and reads mp3's fast as ****, just my 2 cents
noooo panasonic... im mellltttinnng. like i said, if your looking for a head unit youll never have to worry about : eclipse.

i am awesome
If you want a cheap (price wise) head unit that has high voltage outs, and a lot of USEFUL functions without all these pretty useless screensavers, try the Blaupunkt CD70...I bought it for $500 when it came out new in 2001...it was the top of the line model by then...they have a new San Francisco but it blows...anyway, now it's less than $300 but it beats pretty much every Pioneer, Sony, and all those common brands...I had them all...couldn't keep one brand. I like Pioneer, but Eclipse IMO is the bomb...high quality components, sound and reliability. Nakamichi, and Fujitsu Ten, which is the brand of the stock Celica's unit, are great also.
