Bought 35watt 5000k hids from ddm tuning to put in my 94 celica gt but had to take them out after 2 days because all the flashers. Anyone know some headlights lights that look like 6000k that arent too bright. and are silverstar ultras really a blueish white color. thanks

Did you have your headlights properly alligned? Pointing more towards the ground? If the HID's are seen below the cutoff line it will blind you like hell.

Edit: Also, having them in your stock houseings will spread the light out Alot, compared to inside projectors

HID's are illegal here unless they are in projectors.

If headlight testing is part of your half monthly or yearly scrutiny check (we call it WOF, UK calls it MOT, AUS calls it Roadworthy Test, etc) then it will be illegal in your country too.

The best you can do for those 1994-spec headlamps is a 4000K blue hallogen bulb, I haven't come across one which is white enough for my liking, But the Philips brand atleast doesn't blow out, and its got hardly any yellow, it's just not white to me.

I've had my 8000K HIDs in for over a year and a half and no one has ever flashed me.

It makes me so mad when a truck with bright ass lights flashes me when just the level of his truck in general causes his lights to blind me...

HID lights are not meant for halogen housings. Everyone has the right to flash their high beams at you. You're making it unsafe for everyone else on the road by blinding those driving towards you.


Do it the right way or take that sh*t out.

Yeah the light seriously goes everywhere, no1 can see squat when you use HIDs in a Halogen housing, It's almost like looking directly into the sun.

It doesn't even focus the beam for the driver either it just dispurses in every direction except straight ahead.

Get projectors, They look better, function better, and don't blind oncoming traffic and people infront of you looking in their rear view mirrors.



It's also not safe for you either if you blind someone coming around the corner they can't see the center line and end up crossing over your lane.

even with this thread only on the first page its making me want the hids less and less...i mean i sorta do want them only to see better due to alot of deer around here and very little roads are lit.....but then again i dont want to blind others because i know how much i HATE IT! hell i just installed some 5000k 55w ebay headlight bulbs and i had a couple people flash me....but then i adjusted my headlights due to one pointing up into the street signs lol...now i can see better and was wondering why i couldnt see jack once i got this celli...i hate not having headlight tabs.......

Yeah. Don't listen to jordisonjr about this. In order to not blind people with HID lights in halogen housing you basically need to point them at the ground and use the scattered light to light the road, which isn't going to help visibility at all. It'll actually probably make it worse.


Buy some Phillips X-Treme Power bulbs and call it good.

on another note, is it fine to have HID's in the high beams? The inner head lights don't have projectors in either sets.

No. They are frosted lenses which scatters the light.

So with a SS-III projectors conversion, you can have HID low beams and what high beams to match?

I have recently converted to Projector style low beam and newer style high's, I have 35W 8000k in the projectors and 35W 6000k in the high beams. And once aimed correctly improves night time visibility quite alot, and does not bother anyone, lows are on constantly at nights, and the highs pretty much only on a long dark roads, or for punishing the guys with H.I.D's in there halogen housing

i feel like everyone is way overdoing the halogen housing if you angle the lights correctly it wont be too bad i drive daily and commonly see hid in older cars and am not blinded.... even if i was its for a minor second and im not BLINDED just its a bit bright lets not exagerate it.... if someone hit me and said it was due to my hid i would laugh thats a horrible excuse in lue of their inability to drive.
if you want to stick to your guns saying projectors are necessary then why not take all trucks/ suv off the road they are bright to me yet i live and have yet to complain.... sorry soccer moms ur SOL

Angling the lights does not account for using a beam pattern designed for a bulb with a horizontal filament on a system which involves a vertical arc discharge.

It's akin to saying you can use a transmission off an A-series on an S-block if you drill new bolt holes. Just because you can sort of make it fit does not mean it works properly and safely.

More importantly, North American cars are stuck with U.S. Department of Transportation headlights which require 50 per cent of the light to be aimed upwards (1950s regulation aim to illuminate unlit overhead signs). There is no way to angle such headlights to prevent throwing a lot of light too high (as in towards oncoming drivers) while still properly illuminating the road ahead.

Projectors are not necessary (Nissan Altimas have HIDs in a reflector housing meant for HID lighting). Proper beam patterns, matching the light source, are.

I don't know what your local laws are, but if you're the one with HID's in a Halogen housing then it's your car that will get defected or whatever local law enforcement calls it, Over here that means your car wont be legally allowed on the road until it's fixed and inspected. Also your insurance would refuse to cover you for dangerous/illegal mods once they found out and investigate (these bastards are out to save their capitol more so than to fix your car) which means you'd be stuck with the cost of repairs for your own vehicle, while your insurance company tries to sue you for damage to the other vehicle.

It's really a cheap precursor for disaster, and just because it hasn't happened yet to you doesn't mean it never will.

Well.. to be honest, if a housing it not designed for H.I.D bulbs, it will scatter light and blind ppl, and trucks/suv's lights bothers us because the lights are higher up, so we get hit with the beam of light on its way to the road, depending on how close you are to it that is.
