Idea for a prject, but not sure how to research - 6G Celicas Forums

Alright so I'm thinking about looking in to doing a project car. I like the look of an RX-8, but the reliability and the building option of a Mazdaspeed3 engine.

My question is how do I research how to look this up. I really have no clue. I figured I'd ask here because so many people have researched and started threads about how to do something. Since this is my first idea, I figured I'd ask the Pros (6gc) where a good starting point might be.

I am a member of Mazdas247.com, but they are not nearly as helpful(what I've seen so far) as everyone on this board. That is why I am posting my question. her.

I appreciate the help and any advice/ knowledge bestowed on this idea.

Thanks
just get an rx8 and swap in a 13B or a 20B...reliable as long as you get good seals..swapping in a mazdaspeed 3 motor would be a bit of a pain mainly because your gonna need to find a transmission that will bolt to the block..and considering the mazdaspeed3 is awd, might make it more difficult. But you can find 13Bs for decent prices, + already has RWD tranny. or you could swap in a 20B and make tons of power.
mazdaspeed3's are not AWD.
FWD only

wow....i was really tired last night..i was thinkin of a caliber STR4 when i was thinkin of the drivetrain. Still either way, gonna be a PITA to find a RWD tranny that will bolt up to it.

If I use a miata tranny I can make it RWD.

My goal is to get away from a Rotary engine. I'm thinking the DISI (MS3) engine or I hear the FS is cheaper and can be built nicely, but I like the nice power from the DISI already.

anyway, What about the wiring harnesses. Does Doc out in SC/GA still do those? If he can mesh those like he does on the celica, that might be a winner of a route for this project
