New Wheel Package, help! - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #79018 20 posts Started by KAOS
When I get my tax return back, I might be looking at a new set of rims.

I've had a local performance shop spec out a set I've had my eye on for some time, but now I need the pro's opinions.

I think I want to stretch the rubber on these rims too, because I really dig that ultra-low profile look

Here's what the performance shop came up with:

---- start quote ------
2x Forged 5zigen FN01R 18X7.5 +35 - 328.00 each
2x Forged 5zigen FN01R 18X8.5 +35 - 362.00 each

For the tires I would recommend the following.

215/35/18

Dunlop Direzza DZ101 – 181.42 each

Kumho Ecsta SPT - $175.85 each

Yokohama Prada Spec 2 - $209.25 each

Yokohama S-Drive - $209.25 each

Kumho AST - $138.27 each
----- end quote -----

Now, they only recommended one size of tire, and if you'll notice I was hoping to put the wider rims in the rear.... so that doesn't make any sense to me.

But from your experience, what would be the tire size I should be looking for in order to get a good stretched look?

And opinions on the rims? I wanted a strong forged 18" rim that would be lighter in weight than average, and I've always liked the look of the FN01R's. thumbsup.gif Will the offset I've ordered work properly...?

I'm looking to get as hella flush as I can, and barely understand the camber, offset, and toe-in lingo, so please help in anyway you can.

I should also mention that I've purchased Tanabe Sustec Pro Type I coilovers and ST Sway Bars w/ twos endlinks that will be going on before the rims arrive, so I want to ensure that I don't "rub" too much. I'm all for rolling fenders, but I need help ensuring that the specs are correct so that I have good fitment.

Thanks guys!

I would get another tire size then 215/35. I am running that size myself and it is really thin. Try getting a qoute on 225/40-18 tires atleast. Maybe go 225/40 front and 235/40 in the back. This way you will end up with a forward leaning car since the front tires will have a bit smaller diameter (1.26%/ 2.52 CM)
what do you want 2 different widths? Is that the lowest offset FN's you can get?
I wouldnt stretch Paradas, Direzzas suck, Ecstas uhhh.........
I would do Federal 595's if you wanna stretch a little.

8-9 wide: 215/40 or 205/40 depending how much you wanna stretch

7-8 wide: 205/40 or 195/40

my 18s are +30 with spacers: +5 front 0 rear

215/35 in front 225/35 rear

moved my 215/35 to the rear to clear a little more w/camber bolts maxed and then some wink.gif

I don't normally drive fast, but when I do its on a curvy section of this island
with those sizes you don't need to go staggered.
18x8.5 +35 will fit in the front with a stretched tire like you want.
the FN01Rs are beauties, but 5zigen hasn't made the forged version in years, so that's weird.
federal 595's are great performing tires for the price too biggrin.gif

I will never understand putting a 215 on a 9" wide wheel. Heck im trying to squeeze 255's on 8" wide. Tire prices are a little high, shop tirerack and save.

What offset should I shoot for when I order them then? I'll just stick with the 18x7.5's then... thumbsup.gif

shoot for the lowest you can without passing +10

Anyone know if 245/40/17 would fit on the rear?

stretched look, which i am not a fan of. looks good on certain cars though. cheapest is ebay, period. i compared the same tires from ebay and tirerack and ebay had em' at $60 cheaper with free shipping. 255's on 8" wide will make it look like monster truck tires dude. i have 235's on my 8" and they look huge.

if it's the same setup from the first post, you'll be fine.

I'm not sure the offset yet, I will hopefully hear back from the seller tonight about them...

I'm assuming anything over +35 offset and I'm screwed?

just hope it's +30-+35, and you'll be fine with the 8.5".
im not sure about the high offset though. just try to stay around 30-35.

They're either 7.5" or 8.0"

So you are looking at 17s now instead of 18s? Those wheels come in 17x8, 5x100, +35, which is a great size and offset to start with. Then you have the option of 215/40/17s, 215/45/17s, 225/40/17s, 225/45/17s or 235/40/17s.
I def wouldn't get 245s that's too much.
Here is a pic of the 17x8 +35s if you haven't seen it.

if you don't need them stretched for hellaflush these are my preferences not recommendations but preferences. these are non stretched style. I'm a big fan of meaty tires but not too meaty. but theres so many combinations and looks that match that I can say there are really no standards based on your goals. of course overstretched and too thick tires i do not prefer.

7" - 215/40 or 205/45
7.5" - 225/40 or 215/45
8" - 225/40 or 215/45
8.5" - you can run 225s or IDK how 235s look

235 on 8 halfs will look like over inflated stock wheels

proven, 225/40/17s are no longer made by any manufacturer, including nitto.
235/40/17s on 17x8s look and perform great, a very popular combo on 7th gen celicas, scion tc's, and rsx's.
^ really, for Nitto is that just recent, I just bought mine like two years ago, did that happen within the last two years?

just checked, confirmed no 225/40/17 from Nittos no longer. damn thats my favorite tire size for my wheels.
