JDM steering wheel - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #78538 8 posts Started by S8S8
So my clip is arriving tomorrow, and it has a nice red stitched leather three spoke wheel, which you can see below:

Prior to exporting the clip the airbags were cut open (for safety I guess?) but I'm still keen to use the wheel.

I've found loads of steering wheel centres (including the air bag) on ebay in the US, but I think most of them are gen7. They look like they'll fit in the wheel that I have, but I'm wondering if anyone can confirm the gen7 centre will fit in a JDM gen6 wheel?

I also found this one which appears to be a direct replacement...

...but the gen7 centres look a lot nicer. smile.gif

Any help would be appreciated.

Hey that's my steering wheel! (not not really I just have teh same one) and all cars, once junked have the airbags detonated here in Japan for, yes, safety reasons.

you can use the one from the 7gc, the RAV4, MRS, just keep in mind wiring depending on the model you have.

the reason they junk low mileage cars is that as the age of a car increases as well as the mileage, the JCI (which is the Japanese safety inspection) price increases. It is easy for a fairly low mileage car that's older to have a JCI cost of over $2000 US just based on age, mileage, and condition. And when JCI is done every 2 years, it really isn't cost worthy.

On a side note, why are most cars low mileage? Most Japanese use public transportation and long distance trips in cars is not that popular (gas prices are high and the fact the whole country is about the same size as California).

its expensive in japan basically to renew and pay fees for an old car.
