Tire wear question - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #78525 13 posts Started by nics
On a FWD vehicle, does it makes sense if the rear tires wear faster than the front?

I bought a brand new set of falken ziex 512 last october and put 10k miles on it. The treadwear indicator on the front tires is almost at the 25% worn(i can see the cicle a lil bit) and on the rears i can only see the square part of the indicator.

Thanks

alignment? rear bearing going or gone?

I don't normally drive fast, but when I do its on a curvy section of this island
I nvr did alignment when i bought the tires. I dont know how to tell if the rear bearing is going or gone.

are they worn evenly? or on the inner edge or what?

Normal wear on the tires. Wear on the front tires are even. So are the rears. Its just rear tire that is wearing out faster on a FWD car.

are your rear calipers sticking? excessive drag on the rear would cause them to wear faster.
on a fwd car the front tires wear faster then the rear.

check the toe-in on the back tires. get an alighnment.

if the calipers are sticking, gas mileage will go down correct? i even got 35mpg just this weekend so i dont think so.

i will get an alignment. how does the toe in affect the rear tire wear?

what toe-in means is the two back tires point towards each other. So they will scrub the tire bald evenly. Toe in on the rear of the car will not affect how the car drives on the street. In a racing application, it will actually produce under steer during cornering but at the cost of tire wire.

you may not notice it on the street unless theres a horrible sounding rotational noise to accompany it, but it is really bad to have alignment like that!

lol there's no way i can forget that because the handbrake lever will be in the way when shifting gears

firestone has a lifetime alignment for about 170 or so
