Oil dipstick reading wrong - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #78181 18 posts Started by HectortheRican
My 7A used to burn a bit of oil, but lately, every time I check the dipstick, the oil level is in the exact same spot when I used to go through about a half quart a month. But for almost a month, it's been roughly the same. Is it even possible for the dipstick to read the oil level wrong?

That's the thing though. I never check my oil when the motor is warm. Only when it's cold. And it's on level ground.

It could be how your driving it hector.

i know in my 5th gen, it burnt oil and when i would drive it hard, i noticed it would burn
more oil than when i would just take it easy and drive slow taking my time, it hardly burnt
any at all.

just my 2 cents but thats what i would guess.

If the car is cold, and level, the dipstick will read properly. Your bitching about your car NOT burning oil anymore?I envy you good sir, my engine eats oil like gas...

I'm not complaining, I'm just worried! It's been 3/4 full for a few weeks, and if it's wrong, I'm low on oil! Hahaha

you will know your low on oil when the idiot light comes up on the dash, but is good to see people actually check there oil. i know alot of people that dont even know what or where a dipstick is.

Switch to 5w 30 Mobil 1 synthetic and run seafoam through the oil about 50 miles before your next oil change and i can almost guarantee that you will burn oil once again. laugh.gif
Just enjoy that your not burning oil, and if you still think there's an issue. Add a half quart of your oil and see if the position on the dipstick changes.

My car's been burning a quart of Mobil 1 every 3K miles forever. I read that if your car doesn't burn oil, it's an indication that waste material is building up in the oil which is bad for the engine. In other words, oil still gets burnt but the volume is taken up by waste by-product like moisture and acid so the oil level seems to stay the same.

If that's true, looks like a seafoam is in order...
