all you die hard gear heads out there, what are some inexpensive little tricks to better performance? i know in some vehicles you can take out the EGR system, take this out, put that in, etc. etc. Im dumping a huge chunk of money into my car right now and while i have it taken apart in my buddies garage i want to know about any little tricks you guys may know smile.gif

I went full retard once, too. Its OK.
Hi welcome,

Just the usual Intake, Exhaust, Headers, Ignition, ECU & tune if you can.

Cold air/Ram air is good if you can make a box for it and move your battery, Probably the highest gain for a bolt on mod.

You can also advance your timing, but you will need to switch to using premium fuel '

Forced induction or save your money in my opinion.

If you get exhaust for the sound thats one thing; but if you're looking for performance... meh.

Its an economy motor. Don't expect gains of more than 3-5hp.

ya unless your building this thing from the ground up which no one really does with these motors ur not going to get much of a gain. the 5s just isnt a real performance motor, unless you slap a turbo on it and really play around with ur setup.

theres alotttt of info on here for stuff like that, but even then, your better of just getting a 3sgte, 2.0 tubro motor or a 3sge beams 2.0 N/A motor

i already know about the 3s motors. I CANT AFFORD A 2000 DOLLAR MOTOR RIGHT NOW. but i can afford to remove whatever part makes the 5sfe an economy motor.

I think what there trying to say is to change the 5sfe to be a "non economy" motor without boosting, the swap will actually be a cheaper solution, I have seen some red top beams going for 1200-1800 with harness and ecu.

You took my avatar.... I am not amused.

The thing that makes the 5s an economy motor is the head design. Unless you have a way to delete the head from your 5s I don't think you're going to find power.

B22ri22an, you're on my sh*t list.

The thign that makes it an economy motor is that it's a small 4cyl with no turbo. biggrin.gif

header, intake, catback, short shifter. have fun going 16s.

i was just saying that unless you build the 5sfe from the ground up to make a powerful N/A motor, you wont get much hp from the bolt ons. thats why i informed you about the 3sgte and the 3sge since you seem new to this celica world askin about 5s bolt ons which will mainly make the car sound better.

i get alot of compliments that the car sounds really good, but its slow as crap lol. thats why i refreneced the swap.
