OBDII Facepalm - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #77970 9 posts Started by SeverX13
So the other day i was driving to work. I was traveling at about 45 50mph in 4th and wasnt paying attention and shifted down into 3rd as opposed to 5th. as soon as the rpms shot up to around 4k i went back into 5th. about 3 seconds later my check engine light came on. i got to work and checked out the engine listening for any weird sounds. didnt hear anything and it ran fine and still is. Since all my other cars are OBDI i was able to check the codes myself and make my life easier. as i dont have time to get to a grage right now im curious if anyone would have an idea of what tripped the CEL to go on. any opinions to help me out until i get around to getting the codes pulled would be greatly appreciated.

Missfire most likely, mine does it sometimes too, disconect the battery for 20 minutes and see if it happens again

dude 45 to 50 shouldnt b any problem in 3rd... my ST will do 65 to 70 in 3rd w/o any isssues to the motor and it has ~207,000 miles on it
50mph? thats under 100kph... ive ride around all day in 3rd gear in all my celicas at higher speeds than that.

just jump T1 and TE1 u know the drill.

I agree with reset the ecu. Disconect the battery for a bit and replug. and if it's used to tempered driving, then an untempered whoop on it would mostlikely be the "OMFG dont do it again" that Matt was reffereing.

Hahahaha that's funny...

Yep, reset that ECU with a disconnect, My hypothesis is your EGR system was thrown out of whack and it tripped your cel when you missed the gear, either that or like green said a misfire or knock sensor.
