i got sum subs and an amp - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #7733 25 posts Started by 97celicaca
I got a Dual 10" Single-Voice-Coil 1000W Bandpass Subwoofer System (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?id=1059573944216&skuId=5788221&type=product) and a Dual 460W 2-Channel Bridgeable MOSFET Amplifier with Tri-Mode Capability (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?id=1059573944161&skuId=5788196&type=product)

I know these may not be the best but they were on sale for 99.99$ as a pair (down from 229.98$). I was just looking for some decent bass as opposed to my stock speakers so I think this system will do me just fine. Plus, it just looks cool in its plexiglass case. hehe.

So my question is, what wires do I need to hook it up? I know I need an amp power kit but what kind? Also some guy at circuit city said I needed these wires (I forgot what kind) to stop "road noise."
Also, I don't know how to install the sytem so I was thinking on going to Tweeter. Would they have wires there and tell me what wires I need for the install or what? TY
I sure do hope you bought the warranty on the subs. I blew mine like 4 times and took them back with no hassle.

Judging your by your worry for quality your not looking for the best of the best wires. Though the wires aren't top quality, I would recommend 4 gauge wiring kit off eBay for you.

Dual subs? You mean two subs? I blew like 4 different sets.

Well with a bandpass box your obviously not worried about SQ. Why would you look for a better wiring kit the you need. You are obviously stressed on money because you just played 220 some for a stereo. You would spend at least 50+ on a good wiring kit and 50+ on a good install.

Exactly. Once again since your not going for SQ don't worry about "road noise"

I personally can't say I've ever heard of such a thing. But again, with the distortion based bandpass setting you have you will not have to worry about clarity or "road noise."

Some audio buff such as Sound Slut or AudioFreak will arrive and answer your question on the road noise situation and more then likely back up everything I've said so far.

maybe the dood @ circuit city was just tryin to screw me over with some unnecessary thing.
Oh, and just for future reference please title your threads more appropriately. If you would have titled it something like "Wires needed for stereo" Someone may come into here with the attitude to help you as compared to some who may see the title "i got sum subs and an amp" and not really care that you purchased this. This will cause them not to view the thread and not properly answer the question.

oh alright...thank you for the info. (i like not talking in the "washer lights" thread). its much better
o yea i think the "road noise wires" are RCA cables?
You have to have the rca cables. They will come with the amp kit that you buy. You need to find out how big of a power and ground wire the amp will take, then go from there on getting an amp wiring kit. If you've never done a stereo install before, or are not sure about doing it, I'd suggest taking it to a car stereo place.

Good luck on whatever you do.

First of all that box has 2 4ohm subs. The amp isn't capable of 2ohm mono so you will hook it up as 4 ohm stereo. The amp is rated at 85 x 2 rms and 170 x 2 peak. In reality you only need 10ga cable for power and ground. But if you plan on upgrading run at least 4ga. It will cost a little more now but later when you upgrade you won't need to rewire. You didn't say if you have a stock radio or not. The amp you got has speaker level inputs so you won't need rca cables to use the stock radio. If you do have an aftermarket radio shielded "road noise reducing rca's" won't be needed. The bandpass box will filter out road noise and most road noise is at higher freq. than subs produce. I never shell out the big bucks for the "road noise reducing rca's" unless I have tried everything else first. But most of the time if you are carefull during an install you won't have noise anyway.

If you really want to give it a try go to knukonceptz.com they have some great wire for a really good price and they do have install kits.

But if you do go to tweeter they will have everything needed to do the install. But it's gonna cost you.

Audiofreak you are a mack.

TY audiofreak. That was very informative. Yeah, I was planning on getting the wire from Walmart (Walmart.com - 1100-Watt Car Amp Wiring Kit, KPA4X2) Everyone from caraudio.com seems to recommend it. Only thing else I need is some speaker wire. The guys from caraudio.com say I only need about 6 feet of about 14 ga. . . Is that correct?

How much you think Tweeter would charge of the install for my subs, amp and I give them wires? TY

I wasn't even planning on buying subs until I saw that deal. The dude at best buy who installed it said I had 30 days to get the 4 year warranty; I got it because my car spends a lot of time outdoors. I also purchased the Rockford Fosgate 8 gauge 500watt installation kit.
Real good, can't hear any rattles from the inside. But the license plate has the tiniest of rattles, not that noticeable. I guess that’s expected though. It can probably be fixed.
The wal-mart Sosche Amp wiring kits are really good. Came with everything I needed except the speaker wire. I have the 250-550 EfX2 Iced purple amp kit and 14guage Platinum series iced purple speaker wire, and I think it kicks A**.
yea i almost got in that best buy deal too, just for the hell of it. subs, bandpass AND amp for 100 bucks. too good to be true....but then i saw the inside of the box had printed fake carpet >confused.gif> ??? plus what am i gonna do with my 2 1000w 12's and 1600w amp.....

oh well, it looks like a pretty good setup. let us all know how long it lasts. =p
