Looks like a fluxcore mig
Just some tips for ya -
Keep your metals clean, clean gounds, and dont let the pool cool to where it stops glowing

youll be fine just practice. if you weld something and you can beat it with a hammer and the WELD doesnt break your good.
build one of them scrap sculptures as practice

nah just did this...

i extended the hood latch.

You have a lot of splatter, it won't hold due to too many weak joints. Make sure you sand or grind a little bit of the materials before you start joining them.
EZ and slow usually does the job, then grind off the splatter balls, you will see what you missed.
yeah, its fun though. I was scared at first, thats why you see all that. but the hood latch, i beat it like crap, and its holding.

Its heap of fun, anybody can do this!

Its worth the money. I mean it aint no lincoln or miller but it'll get the job done. only if I had 220 outlet in the garage I would pick up the gas welder from HF.

I have a miller 110 mig welder and it was perfect for when i finished off my downpipe and work bench supports.

Can you attach a gas tank with regulators to your welder? If so, you should get a 75%/25% CO2/Argon mix tank and some copper coated wire and you won't have as much spatter. The flux-core stuff is horrible when it comes to spatter sticking to the metal. biggrin.gif
A wire brush comes in handy as well.
I love welding! My dad has a 220 volt miller welder with Argon, and I have been using that for the past few months. If you haven't picked up a grinder yet DO it! I am hoping to take a Tig class next semester since I am done with my auto classes. Does anybody here have Tig experience?
Why yes I do. its WAY easier than it looks, especially steel. Aluminum is difficult but not bad, of course take this with a grain of salt from someone who thinks 6010 keyhole vertical up butt joints are 'fun' and as someone who can actually oxy-acetly weld.

i just picked one up this past weekend. Wanted one for a long time..

Going to get an angle grinder soon as well. Should make things a bit easier.

Haha, I guess I'll wait till spring to pick one up then!
Does it come with a basic helmet to get your started?

Never thought i would find more people that can weld as such, i wish you guys were at my work instead of the bunch of idiots i'm stuck working with! Half of them either can't weld or can't see well enough to find the seam to weld. kindasad.gif
From what i've seen welder's don't come with a basic helmet. They usually come with the whip, ground clamp, 1 spool of wire, gas hookups w/ regulators, extra tips, 1 cup, 1 nozzle and manuals.
Im sure you could go to a local welding shop and find a decent helmet for a decent price.
Bitter, can you braze as well?

Can I braze? ****, I could braze you a box and then weld the box's corner to a pipe upside down. Now my friend....she can weld pipe. Schedule 40 or 80 whatever diameter in multiple passes with different rods. I never got into the pipe welding, thats a real trade there. I did welding as a hobby and towards my automotive education. TIG is nice, I liked it the best....well I liked torch welding...well stick. stick with 6010 is still my fave. Hated that rod at first, loved it eventually. hot rod with a fast freeze and good penetration. I still don't like 7013 rod.

best advice i can give as a welder is with machines like that is get lotsa practice, from that pic it looks like ur heat is too low and ur wire is too high ur getting a buldge effect or "cold roll" but for a first go thats pretty good most ppl blow holes in verything when they weld. as for splatter thats gonna be controled by ur heat/wire speed and how clean the metal is. has nothing to do with fluxcore wire, get ur self a good chipping hammer and u just skip the blade part across your material and the spatter comes right off,

as for welding vertical stuff ur not the only one who enjoys it lol im a pressure pipe welder by trade and i love it, when i can find work anyways

keep up the good work its really handy to have a welder in ur garage

i hate snow, missing my celica
