Attention Swappers...Question about AC - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #7679 13 posts Started by XSTeknique
I am near completion of my 2nd gen 3sgte swap in place of what formerly was a 7afe. I was wondering if anyone had completed the same swap and got their AC to work. I realize the compressor has to be changed, but just curious what you all did. Any help is appreciated. It's winter now, but I won't have a heater or defroster. Summer is what I'm REALLY worried about.
many remove it,

some dont get it to work properly,

but if you wire it up right and install it(get a 5sfe ac compressor) it will work.

i just left my A/C out.

I say you do the same, just make sure you leave the power stearing.
I suppose it's the price to pay for speed, eh? In 95 degree weather here in Florida, I'm just gonna have to atleast try and make it work before summer comes. I can deal with it, but my girlfriend can't unfortunately. You know how girls are. So I guess I'll give the 5sfe compressor a try. Thanks guys.

the compressors are intechangeable but the hose lines are ran differently.. at least between the 5s and the 3s... I would recomend checking the ac lines between a 5s and a 7a I am not sure if they are different or not. if they are different then get the 5s ones, that way you are not havin to redo all of the hose/lines.. as for hooking it up you are going to have to run it to a toggle switch inside the cab.. its the only way that I know how. When I 1st did the swap I left it out for the extra HP but think I will try and hook it up this time around.. there is a how to somewhere online to hook it up. Stipt found it I will ask him where it was or you can PM him.

99 project version 3.0.. hello SEMA 2010 =)

No No No No No

Here is why is does't work -

For those of you who are using a Celica ST as the platform for their 3SGTE project. Your Air Condition will not work without significant changes.

The phyiscal hoses and exact compressor locations are trite problems easily fixed. The A/C Amplifier that is part of the HVAC system in the Celica ST uses one signal wire to kick on and off the A/C compressor. the Celica GT and ST185, ST205, SW20 share a similar style of activating the Magnetic Clutch Relay - which really gets the A/C compressor to... well, compress. This system is more advanced and takes into account a few more things. Hence that is why the AT200 HVAC system cannot run one of those A/C Compressors.

Now I'm sure you can either modify the Compressor, or just replace your A/C amplifier to make the AC. Research is pending on it at Top Shelf Racing.. we busy with a Supra harness, two 4A harnesses and my own Body Control Module for me EE 470 class.

Well our buddy Mike is right once again. But don't despair yet...there is hope, I think. I went to visit Jamasco, a shop in Ft. Lauderdale that is putting a 3rd gen 3sgte in place of a 7afe...and the AC works. The guy I spoke to today didn't know too much into detail what was involved because they had an AC guy work on it, but it was something like a Corolla compressor, Camry pulley, factory clutch and factory lines. Don't quote me on this, but this is just to let you know that it is custom job but from what i hear, doable. I'll find out more info when I can, or I can provide you with the shop's number if you need to ask them questions.
I heard if you hotwired the a/c to a switch to turn on the compressor along with the fan it'll work.
