sweet, however why does all that cutting and vice gripping and hole making and tapering need to be done? Can't I just cut the stick down a few inches and put the knob back on? I guess i dont understand how the short shifter affects the linkage or something

I just bought a 7th gen one off ebay. works great. I want to get a weighted shift knob now though, to compensate for the shorter throw

If you cut the stick down, then you have no thread..

Having gone from a regular 5 speed to the TRD short shifter, I can tell you it's worth the price! Short shifters are not just for looks, they have a purpose.

I have an aftermarket knob that has 3 screws to hold it to the post. threads make no difference whatsoever to me. As long as that is the case, I dont have anything else to worry about right? I know I sound like a cheapa$$ but ill save a hundred or so bucks this way...haha.

Ohh gotcha. Then you should be good. Just tighten the hell outta those screws.

A $100 shifter is a lot more than just a shift lever that is made shorter. It's phyisically different, leverage is at different points so the throw is shorter too, not just the lever. The TRD Quickshifter isn't actually shorter at all, but makes the throw shorter.
But just cut yours, I'm sure you'll love it.

dont cut it, like said it will not have the threads on it, buy the 7th gen short shifter, i have this as well as other members, it also comes with upgraded aluminium bushings that support the shifter and you will have a more solid throw, as for the the set screw shift knobs i hate them, hate hate hate them, mine came off when i was in traffic, so not a fan, i have the 7th gen short shifter with the trd knob, worth the money, the scion tc short shifter will work also \

Cutting anything on a car is usually never a good idea wether its springs or a shifter, if you want a ss just buy one a hundred bucks inst that much and like the guys said cutting the stock one vs getting a real one are two totally different things. Just my .02

u could just go the cheap route like i did and by a 7th gen short shifter off ebay for like $20 after shipping.. that way u still have ur stock one in case something happens and u need to put it back in
+1
I got mine for 17 shipped.
