ADVICE - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #7633 24 posts Started by kuya1284
As usual, we get our monthly spurts of questions pertaining to the 3S-GTE swap and what else one will need to complete it. BEFORE any of you new guys continue asking should you get, what else will you need, or what not, let me recommend you all do this:

1. Research. This is by far the best advice anyone will be able to give you here. A lot of information has been posted. If you have questions that HAVE NOT been answered, then ask.

2. Funds. If you don't have the funds, are no where near having the funds, or are one of those people saying "I SHOULD be ready by next summer", there's a good chance that you won't be performing this swap for quite A WHILE. I know that you are all intrigued by the infamous 3S-GTE, but not to waste our time by asking the same questions over and over again. BE PREPARED. I'd recommend having about $4000 saved up in your savings for the JUST IN CASE situations. TRUST ME. There's nothing I hate more than things coming up unexpectedly and the shop telling me... OH NO... this won't work, we're going to need X part from Y car because Z is not compatible.

3. Patience. Be prepared for some serious downtime. If you have a ST, be EXTRA prepared! Once my swap is complete, I'll supply as much info as I can to ensure a smooth installation. I don't want to see anymore people encounter problems like what I've gone through.

Just when I thought my swap was just about complete and that I wouldn't need to purchase anything else, I just found out this past weekend that I'm going to need an accelerator cable, power steering high pressure line, power steering pump, and A/C lines all from a GT. And you know what... THIS FREAKIN SUX! I don't mind spending the money for things that are necessary... BUT I would like to be prepared. Since Christmas is coming up, it would be nice to have money to spend on people, rather than on my car.

Well, that's it for now. If others would like to add to this... feel free... I you want to bash... go for it... I don't care anymore... There's nothing anybody can say or do that'll phase me... I'm already numb from all the frustration and grief this project has caused me and all the other drama that is happening concurrently in my life.
good call man...and good luck w/ your ride..hope it all works out for ya!

i understand that some questions are being asked time after time, but if you dont like it then ignore them. I asked questions when i was new here and people answered them, now that other people ask them, i like to answer them. Simply ignore them if you dont want to read it, because sometimes it is nearly impossible to find something among the hundreds of threads on these boards.

but good luck with your swap
Kuya i kno what ur going thru, just keep ur head up man,
IT'll ALL BE WORTH IT I PROMISE!!

I have an extra fuel pump resistor pack if you would want it. Its not necessary to have so I left mine out. The solenoid tho, your car wont start with out it, and it plugs right into the harness.

Oh and I got my solenoid from Toysport (you take them as u find them).

Yeah so do i but they were a last resort, and it was expensive, way expensive for what it is.

ps. i think it's very cool of u to prepare a thorough document on swappin. much appreciated.
Everything is pretty much in except for the accelerator cable... that's all that left... then my extra aftermarket toys and eletronics... then PSSSSSSH! I'll probably drop by the junk yard on Friday...

car downtime sucks... along with future swappers or turbocharging kid, downtime is nearly impossible, along with the quoted amount for kuya ($4000) i recommend getting a spare car. some kind of a beater to get you from point A to point B.. i didnt even get good luck with this, the sr20 nissan threw a rod right threw the block... just goes to show, be prepaired for the worse, and then some..
