I was just wondering...theres this '88 RX-7 sitting outside of the Mazda dealer here, and it's been sitting there for around a year now...hasn't been moved. So, I figure the engine is bad. Say I bought the car with a bad engine...would I be able to mount at least a 4 cyl. in there? I mean, being that a rotary is about half the size of an engine with the same displacement.

I think it would be a cool project. What do you guys think?
mazdas are a real pain in the a55 to work with. it might be fun but i think you'll have less trouble converting you celica into a GT 4.

I agree, that would be sweet. But I think that it would cost less and be less trouble converting your car.
i'd check around and see what you can get that new 13b-rew...(the newer rx7 tt engine..)..if you can get one of those RELATIVELY cheap..i'd go for it...cause that would be a bad ass...oh, and is that 88 a turboII ? or the NA version? *the TurboII will have a hood scoop, and some say "TurboII" on the rocker...* OR, you could always just put a new NA or TurboII engine in it, and tune those...you can get quite a bit of reliable power out of the NA i know..i don't know what all it involves, but you can tune them and make them rev safely to 11-12k rpms...street port and other goodies i believe...iono...anyway, there's at least 3 options right there to go w/ if you get the car...it'd be a fun project car, i thought about gettin an NA for a daily car when my celica engine goes and i wanna do my swap...

How cheap is cheap for a rotary though? I wish I knew how much the car was first...and if it's even for sale. I don't even know what kind of RX-7 it is. Haven't looked at it close enough.
