GT4 front caliper alternatives? - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #75547 37 posts Started by luka
are there any alternatives to the factory GT4 calipers that aren't $1,300+?

Its one of the few hardware pieces i'm missing for my project.

I doubt my stock GT calipers are strong enough to handle & judging by the size difference in hubs, even big enough to consider using.

any help is appreciated smile.gif
ive seen a 4th gen all trac with tacoma 4 pot brakes nit the same gen but im sure dat it could be done celicatech somewhere, you have the lexus ls400 four pot also there are more on here somewhere look around

Why cost $1300+? Order brand new from Toyota or what?
PM me if you want, I got a set laying around, could trim down the 315mm rotor to 300mm

thanks for the replies, I'll check on the tacoma & ls400. pm sent.
does anyone know where we can find a set of double piston front calipers found on ST202 Celica with superstrut suspension???!!!

I've got them biggrin.gif

No longer in need for them since I switched to st205 calipers

oh really, is there a rebuild kit for them how many miles on them, cost?? your car came stock with superstrut suspension???

i mean these type of brake calipers.

The've done 190000km. There is a rebuilt kit available: toyota part number 04479-20210
In the Netherlands, the rebuilt kit is approx €50,- ($64)
They were factory fitted on my car, but due to an 3S-GTE engine swap, I replaced them for ST205 calipers.
If you're interested, feel free to make me an offer.
Shipping costs are a killer though.....€ 104,10, which is about $134,02 at todays exchange rate

Can supply pictures if you want, but have to take them first wink.gif

OK thanks for that information, I'll keep that in mind when I'm doing my front brake conversion.

so your saying you have done 190,000 km on the brake calipers. which is equivalent to 119,000 miles!?

How about the brake pads, are they the same size as the ST204/ST202 Single piston caliper that came on McPherson strut suspension??

You'd be surprised how good the GT brakes work on even a decently high HP swapped car. I have great braking response and I'm running 18-20PSI on a 3S-GTE
It's been proven the stock GT brakes are as good as ST-185 dual pots
IMO ST-205 or leave it stock [Unless of course you want to pay waaaay too much for the Brembo namebrand instead of Celica stamped Brembo brakes LOL wink.gif ]

They are the same as the ST-205 - just different brackets wink.gif

Luka already bought GT4 calipers from me wink.gif

and for others here is a list of calipers that can be made to work as well

4runner ( there are 2 versions of them accomodating different sizes of disc )
Supra TT
IS300 trd brakes
any big brake kit designed to work with Scion tC and 7th gen Celica GTS

ls430 calipers

On alltrac.net they got the new tundra calipers to bolt right up.

I forgot about tundra, there are 2 different calipers as well, both can work.

the LS430, depending on the year they need different work in order to fit. but also doable

actually, instead of asking about calipers, people should research brake disc, that's the hard part, is easy to bolt the caliper to your knuckle, but finding a disc that will suit the caliper / knuckle is the tough part.

so far I know Cadillac Catera disc with 5 x 100 drilled on them can work with ST205 disc.

are there any others that you guys know of ?

yeah, just waiting for them to get here hehe.

Found a bunch of places in the UK for rotors, but shipping them into the US might make it hard. Found a couple of other leads in Japan, potentially cheaper since it's much closer.

No, the're a little bit bigger than single piston calipers from the McPherson strut

JDM ST205
what are the aftermarket brake pad options as far as the dual piston superstrut brake calipers???

I see that TRD has them for $155 for the front pair and $155 for the Rear pair plus shipping, its not really good to mix and match brake pads right, by this I mean having trd brake pads in front and hawk hps street pads in the rear!

Well the ls430s I have are monobloc 4 piston calipers in the front and 2 piston in the rear. You will need a brake adapter that can easily be made using aluminum blocks. The thing you guys fail to consider is the brake bias. Now if you guys are all about having massive calipers then more power to you, the point of upgrading your brakes is to gain stopping performance.

We need a the ST and GTs stock caliper piston diameter then we can go from there on brake bias.

So can I use GT4 brakes cailper on my 95 GT and if so how or what do I have to do to fit them

(Oo__oO) 1995 Celica GT 2.2L. 5sfe coupe She stock for now
Culp did a write-up on how to. It looks fairly easy, once you find the right rotors to use.

Cadillac Catera with 5 x 100 bolt pattern custom drilled on them
Are there any 330mm rotors with a thickness of 30mm? I know the STi are 330x32

and of the Audi quattro is 330 x 30 but an adapter would be needed as the caliper can only accomodate ~ 315 MAX and if the disc is trimmed down you lose brake surface, as they have a groove below the audi's brake surface where our ST205 brake pad would fall on, so triming the disc is not an option there.

I actually still have these disc at home, maybe I'll take a picture of them before tossing them away.
well i plan on using the ls430 calipers front and rear. I have brackets but they need to be machined. I believe the ls430 calipers have the same piston size as the celica so no issues with brake bias really.

if you can get your hands on ST205 disc those also work, the only issue with them is the cost + shipping since they are not available in US, that's why I adventure with a rotor I could source within US.

Cadillac Catera disc are readily avialable anywhere and jsut need to take to a machine shop or sometime the rotor supplier can drilled with for a small fee ( I paid 15 dollars )

so in the end cost of Catera disc + custom bolt pattern fees = a lot cheaper than ST205 disc.

I was thinking of just getting some ST205 rotors off eBay (not cheap) after getting some SS Goodridge brake lines. As far as the rear twin piston GT4 calipers go... Do they bolt on to the GT-USDM rotors or do the GT4 rotors bolt on with the GT4 calipers on the MP strut system?
for the rear ST205 brakes you need the ST205 disc, USDM gt disc won't work, and they are almost a bolt on, just need ~ 5 mm spacers on the caliper brakets, this can be fixed with washers, very simple.

Okay so all of the machining needs to be done on the front brakes (Caliper mounting trimmed a few mm and rotor diameter trimmed to 300mm), But for the rear brakes the opposite; a spacer is needed on the caliper mounting braket. And the rear ST205 rotor bolts on?
I have an idea of a double piston caliper that may fit, but need to try it. illl keep updated.
