Aloha! I need to degrease my engine soon. I brought a can of Johnsen engine degreaser. My engine is a 5S-FE, what needs to be covered from water protection? Mahalo!

Cover you diztributor cap for sure, and the more important wires, spray on the degreaser and let it sit for like 10-20 minutes. then spray it off or pressure wash it. I pressure washed mine. I did it like 3 times.

Have the engine running while you do this that way you won't water log it.

Like the other guys said, make sure to cover all the ignition related wires and components and also it wouldn't hurt to cover the alternator if you decide to keep the engine off. I'd avoid using a pressure washer on the engine itself since it will force water through the valve gaskets and so forth (seen it happen to a friends car). It would be good to use those steam cleaners after degreasing as it helps break up all that debris on the head and block, if not then regular water and toothbrush will be just as good. BTW I use simple green as a degreaser cause it smells better
