Please help - Does anyone know of an alternative UK source for a fuel tank?
I will only go to Toyota as a last resort due to their prices -£400 - You would think they were flying it business class from Tokyo!!!!!!!!!!!!
In the meantime i will keep searching

This listings is for a door i think but you just contact them & ask about a fuel tank,id imagine there are plenty available from Glasgow breakers yards pretty cheap.

I was trying to avoid getting one from the scrappy's - I am hopefully hanging on to the car for a few more years (to get the use of all the replacement parts added so far). I suppose 13 years and 140K miles from the original fuel tank isn't bad in the we(s)t of Scotland.
For piece of mind I will probably go to the Toyota dealer and at least i know the tank will last.

Up to you mate but £400 I'd find a tank that's come of an import,my car is a JDM import & the underside was like a new car on import,that's the difference if the roads aren't salted

i was having the same problem. $1140 canadian for a new tank. I found a place that will repair the tank by using a urethane coating and they guarantee it for 3 years. Only $200 canadian. You may want to get your tank fixed or if you want added safety, you could get the scrap yard tank and get it coated. Do a google search for gas tank renu, and you'll find a uk vendor.

A quick update...........

I went for the new tank - less hassle in the long run. I didn't need the retaining straps - they were ok...ish so the full price was £352.

I helped my brother-in-law (who is a mechanic) to remove the old one and refit sender unit, breather hose etc. to the new tank. Saved some money by welding on a new section of breather pipe next to the flange, the original was a bit knackered.
If I had put this into Toyota they would have charged a fortune. While the tank was removed I cleaned-up the underside to remove any loose rust, painted the heat shields and then undersealed the whole thing.

Anyway 8hrs graft later the underside looks like it just rolled out of the showroom!
Looks like the next job will be to replace the sump!
