zake's progression thread - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #72669 132 posts Started by Zake
this will be the thread that il post the progress of my 96' celica as it comes along.

here is some pics of the car as it was in march-2010

when i got the car, the dash lights were burnt out, soo i fixed it.

then i went to cleaning the inside. (previous owner left it horrific..)

while i was doing that, i decided to de-badge the rear
right after i took them off (un-cleaned)

and after i cleaned it up

i think this would be a nice spot for the now "homeless" badges
(please excuse the dirty carpet in the trunk, when i vacuumed, it wasn't in the car)

Kinda cool place to put the badges. Have fun with the celi!
Reminds me a lot of my car when I first got it. Taking off my rear badges was the first thing I did, too.

Looks very nice and clean, and I love the color. Good luck!

looking good smile.gif. cant wait to see your progress
I think it needs jdm taillights.
i decided to remove the rear spoiler today
here is when it was first taken off

here is after i cleaned it and plugged it

i wish i could get all those little scratches out and fix the dents on the hatch from where the spoiler was mounted.

You're about 6 hours away from me. There are a few members up north near you. We're actually having a Celica meet at Starved Rock in June. You should try to show up!

well, i began fixing my high beam today. (leaked) the bad thing about it was that the water had been in there for years. and all the insides of the light was stained from the rust. so i got some high temp silver paint to fix that, will post more pics of that tomorrow when its dry.

Looks good! I'd paint all the inside silver the same color as you did the high beam. I did all of mine black, looks like smoked headlights without losing any vision! thumbsup.gif

well, a month or so ago, i was planning on selling my Celica GT to get a 5-speed. but then decided to keep it and have a bit of fun.
I now have a semi stable job and can finally save money. my list of parts for the spring/summer (spring should be the body work, summer is the performance) is as follows:

1. Front Lip or Front Bumper I haven't decided, most likely the lip, since there would be less modifying it to make it fit. but then again, the bumper looks BA
2 Megan Coilovers either from here (if they're in stock) or from eBay
3. have my whole car resprayed (the same stock color since there is a rust issue and pealing clear coat)
4. either buy one of _Jim_'s 3SGTE engines, or just have my 5SFE rebuilt and turbo it.

My "right now" project is coming from Mike (mkernz22) from his parts car. I'll post pics of what I'm going to do.. when its done. biggrin.gif

Bro, question. How did you debadge the rear without scratching the paint? Also, what'd you use to clean afterwards? I've been wanting to do this for SO long but have been afraid of scratching.

i used my credit card when the sun was hitting it. (heat gun would work too) and to get the junk off the paint, i used wet paper towels and a lot of elbow-grease. im sure there is an easier way than that..

Interesting, I'll try that tomorrow. And I'd love to use Goo Gone but I have no idea if that'll eat paint.

come to think of it, i think i used bug and tar remover. but it still took a long time and i ended up getting blisters, but it was worth it. iv never used goo gone on paint before, i wouldn't think it was do harm. but I'm not sure.

When I did mine, it didnt scratch the paint the basically popped right off. Its the adhesive stuff behind that is hard to get off!
But i imagine with some sort of tar remover stuff it would be pretty easy. I just sanded the stuff, because i was painting my car anyhow, and it actually didnt leave too much scratching and i was forcefully sanding lol

if you want to get it more cleanly off to begin with use floss, that's what i used. Car came with the christian fish on the back and the color of it was weird.

i used silicon gel, and cut little circles out of a piece of plastic, painted them black, then stuck them on the silicon. it seems to work nicely. atleast till i can plug them permanently.

I'm gonna try Goo-Gone with paper towels, see if that works. If not, I'll do the tar remover

So I went to urban tanks today which is a car audio shop where I live, and I had the guy look at my subs. Within 20 seconds he had them pounding. So I was like wtf did you do?? cwm13.gif he said he just reversed the polarity on one of my subs. (I, like a moron, hooked up the wires backwards when i put them in the celica frown.gif ) so we were talking about "how to make the most of what you have" and he showed me different kinds of boxes, and was explaining how vented boxes can make you subs that much better. so i asked how much it would be for one, and he said 100. so i said i want it. he installs the subs in it and puts it in the car, i turn it on and WOW! it was a significant difference! biggrin.gif all that with a 760 watt amp pushing 2 12 inch subs!
old box. my cat is huge. biggrin.gif

new box, and my tools sitting in the bottom right. thats right, some people ony carry a few. I CARRY THEM ALL! lol
