you can use abs axles in a non abs hub with no problems.
No need to remove the ring, it's no gonna hurt anything

what about non abs axels through an abs hub?
the abs system will deactivate and the abs light will stay lit until the proper axles are put in

And then all you have to do is remove the ABS bulb from your dash. =)
