i dont really know if it worth trying but applying the truck release button some cars have to the doors

im imagining you trying to get in your car when the door release soleniod fails, sorry

its a nice cool trick to show friends but IMO it would be the last thing I'd do to my car.

Yeah, definitely install a manual override somewhere. Like, cover the handle with a plate that you can pop off in case the battery is dead.

I can attest for it SUCKING when the battery dies. I've had to work on a few of the C6 Vettes with dead batteries. There's a release in the trunk to open the door manually, but guess what? If the battery is dead, the only way to open the trunk is with a hidden key hole in the license plate opening. Now when the car is nice and dirty, covered in snow/ice, that key hole is impossible to get to.

I guess the moral of the story is unless your car is only for show KEEP YOUR DOOR HANDLES!

so whats the point then if there is an emergency like the front end is hit and the battery is smashed or there is an electrical fire you are SOL. yeah you can smash out the window but for me id rather just be able to pull a handle and know i can get out

There is a backup handle INSIDE the car for getting out, you would not be trapped in the car if the battery died.

The latch itself is backwards to ours, ie the latch is in the jamb and the catch is on the door so hiding the backup handle behind the seat isn't as hard as it would be to hide it on a celica. Maybe you could hide something down in the pocket at the bottom of the door. Would just need to rig a cable down there.

Oh, and if you're really worried about getting out you always have the hatch or trunk to crawl out

If you've been in an accident and your car is smashed to hell on both ends, there's a slim chance of getting out through the hatch or trunk. That's just not practical thinking.

I'm all for cool mods and finding ways to be innovative, but not at the expense of safety.

For a show car..this would be an awesome mod...for a Daily Driver,no way..

does it really needs a lot of energy to open the doors?
a separate small battery would do the job just in case the battery is dead
