Changed ignition wires/spark plug now misfire!! - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #71629 17 posts Started by viruz_one
Today i switched out a few things on my Celica. Including changing oil, changing thermostat, changing spark plugs, and changing ignition wires. After changing everything im getting this really bad missfire. I think maybe I plugged the wire set in the wrong order, or Im missing a vaccum line or something but cant find anything!!

Here's a pic of the engine, see if you guys spot anything. Thanks in advance!..

which cylinder is misfiring?
Im not sure, how do i check that?

I unplugged each coil one by one and when i unplugged the the 3rd one (going left to right) it shut off the engine.
you probably mess up the firing order of the wires. Unless for some reason the cap or rotor or one of the new wires is going on its way out.

you messed up the firing order OR you had a bad wireset.
Thats what im thinking too (firing order.) Does anyone know where i can find the correct firing order, or a diagram?

Im going to get a new cap and rotor tomorrow just to make sure it isnt one of those.
ok you have it wired wrong it looks like...say the cylinders (standing in front of the hood facing the trunk)are 1 2 3 4..switch the wires on 1 and 2...then it should run normal smile.gif

pre-gapped plugs or you gapped them yourself??

I don't normally drive fast, but when I do its on a curvy section of this island
CelicaST_CALI: Thanks!! Im gonna give that a try as soon as i get home! still at work UGH!!

808celica: I bought some NGKs at autozone. I double checked the gap just to make sure it was ok and they were at .032mm. Which was what they told me was the correct gap.

put back your old wires (should've labeled it before removing) and see if you still get miss fire. since you will be in the distrib why not check the ignition coil resistance with a multimeter and see if you're getting the right power.

Did what CelicaST recommended and it purrrssss now like a kitten. Now i just need to add antifreeze. My temp guage seems to jumping all over the place after the thermostat change. But overall running good! Thanks guys for the help.
did you bleed out the cooling system?

Only if you buy from Toyota will it 1-4 on the wires and cap.

P.S. Not everyone knows how to work on cars, just like you prob. dont know how to do open heart surgery.
