ok so its been a few days with my engine light always on when im driving and i need to know of a couple of things to check before i have to get it serviced. well first a friend of mine tightened my gas cap which was loose because i forgot to screw it on tightly enough so i thought maby that was the problem but the light is still on, i checked all the fluids in my engine and they seem to be fine and i beleive most if not all of my electrical components are working as well so anyone got some ideas on how i can get that checked out without having to spend money on letting a profesional look for the problem? i would be happy on any input/ideas to try because i hate looking at that light everytime i am going fast or making tight turns and what not. >>

Try this. I had same problem. It was my second O2 sensor. Kindda irritating when ur driving and the damn light takes ur eyes off the road. Just call a auto shop when u come up with the error code. they might let u know what it is for free.

Check all ur exhaust components, o2 sensor, EGR, stuff like that.

do what this shop did to a friend of mine (they couldnt figure it out)

just take out the bulb

It's possible the gas cap caused the problem but the light won't go off on it's own. It needs to be reset.

ok so if the problem is fixed and i need to reset the light how would go about doing that and is that going to screw up all my settings as well for my sterio system settings as well? i.e. balancing and what not.

I just un-hooked the battery, reset my stereo system tho. I dont know any other way.

oh i found out the code FFFFPF so 4 flashes a pause then 1 flash. well looking on the possilbe problems web sight i wasnt able to understand the whole logic thing so if anyone knows what that is please tell me so i can fix the problem and hopefully it isnt anything major. seeing new matrix soon so ill be back later to check out what the code means.

U can call an auto shop, they should be able to tell u what it is. But i'll look into it also. Good Luck

That's a code 41 Throttle Position Sensor signal. It may be the sensor or the wiring you should have it looked at. To reset the light there is a fuse in the fusebox under the hood you need to pull it for 10 mins or so to clear the computer memory. It's either the ecu or efi fuse can't remember which right now. it's in the front of the fusebox.
