you can't and you shouldn't... the lines run from the brake cylinder to the abs controller to the brakes.... soooo... you would need all new lines in order to reroute it around the ABS controller... plus you have a 99 which has the upgraded controller... why would you want to remove it?

I'm doing some work in the engine bay and need access to that area while carrying out the work. I will put the unit back before driving the car.

What I really want to know is,

1 is the brake fluid under pressure there?
2. can I drain the brake fluid off before attempting other work?
3. can I undo the nuts that hold the brake lines onto the abs unit?
4. will I be able to roll the car with the abs unit missing?
5. can I refill the brake fluid and then just drive the car?
6. any specific procedure for draining or refilling the brake fluid?

2. Sure, but you won't be able to remove all of the fluid.
3. Yes you can, you'll need a open wrench like this one to avoid any damage:



Only you need a size 10
4. Sure, but you'll only have your handbrake.
5. Yes, as long as you bleed the system properly.
6. Pressurize the brake system by pumping the pedal, open the bleed plugs on the caliper to let air out. repeat this several times until no more air is coming out.
Start with the longest brakeline and work your way to the shortest one. So first right rear, then left rear, right front, left front.
It's a 2 mens job unless you have this:
