I was wondering why 4th gen 3sge has a diagonal engine placement in the bay. the 7afe has a vertical engine placement. and the 5sfe it sits diagonally. Why is that, is it supposed to help with weigh distribution? does the 3rd gen 3sge sit diagonally as well?

I believe all S Series engines mounted transversly for FWD applications are mounted at an angle, Im not entirely sure but it was to put more weight towards the center of the car to help with weight distribution. If im correct the 3rd Gen Honda Prelude also had it's engine mounted at an angle but this was done so the larger engine would clear the hood line so the the cars front end could have a very low profile, not entirely sure if Toyota did this for the same reason but the S series is both in displacement and dimensions a larger engine than the A Series so it might have been done to allow the engine to fit in the smaller engine bays of these cars so they wouldn't have to modify the engine bay to fit a larger engine?

i do belive it has to do with displacement, effecting spacial issues. If you take a 5s-fe and rotate it to 0 degree's the exhaust manifold just pushed through the rad

The slant is to allow proper oil drainage from the head. Most S-series engines sit this way.

ok then talking now I want to talk about the oil. I know that on the 7afe and 5sfe economy engines the oil filter is located directly under the header of the car on the block of the engine? why is that?

And why does the 3rd and 4th gen 3sge engines have the oil filter located on the upper oil pan? Does this allow for oil flow and filtering?

question about the baffle plate. All celica's come with an oil pan baffle plate? what is the purpose of it? I did my oil change today and I previously had an mobile m-103 that cost me $12 and then I just bought two toyota oem filter that cost me $13. I noticed that the toyota filter was about 1cm taller than the mobil oil filter why is that?

well the purpose of the baffle is usually to ensure oil stays near the oil suction part. without the baffle oil would move around inside the Oil pan when taking hard turns and could potentially move away from the suction part. As for the placement of the Oil Filter I really don't know why Toyota placed it under the headers. But the reason the 3S-GE has it relocated is probably because it uses long Tubular headers that probably get in the way of the 3/5S-FE placements. I Do know that the S Series engine have Factory Oil Coolers that you can see easily its literally the base of where you connect your Oil Filter. For those filters You bought Im at a loss for explanations? But for the video youll notice he turns on the Heater. The Heaters are literally Small Radiator Cores inside that cabin that draw out Radiator Fluid which is why when he turned it on when his car was heating its a way to help cool your car should it overheat although it didnt seem to do much for him. But if your car gets too hot you'll lose power which is why alot of tuners Use aftermarket Oil Coolers. what he means about fluctuating is im guessing it gets too hot and the heat will warp the Casing of the Oil Filter which would hamper Oil flow and filtering im assuming?

Ok thanks! really s series engines have factory oil coolers? But they are not meant for racing are they. Does anybody happen to have a pic of it? Is it necessary to buy an aftermarket oil pump for racing? or the stock one is just fine.

Can anybody else elaborate on the difference between factory oil filter size and the mobile filter/trd oil filters? Also the reason why they put a metal zip tie over the oil filter on the youtube vid link.

yes, the 3s and 5s come with factory water cooled oil coolers. they aren't very effective. an aftermarket air cooled (beisde/infront of the rad) would be much more effective. it all depends on how your racing, and what you have on the engine. the size of the filter for our engines in my opinion isn't going to make a difference as long as u change it on a regular bases, although a more effective pump would play a big roll in moving oil @ hi rpm

as i did, i used the TRD oil filter relocation kit (stock size sport filter) and oil cooler; I am using a 3s oil pump tho. althought I'm not a racer i did it more as personal preference for a turbo build.
