I need help with my idle - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #70899 11 posts Started by AzNbOiFrM9i6
Hey My RPM idle sits around 1100-1000 RPM. I brought it to a mechanic he tried a lot of things, and still can't figure out what is wrong. Anyone here might know what is wrong with it? I need it fixed, soo i can go smog it and register my car. Thanks in advance.
Did your mechanic try adjusting the idle speed screw, located on the front of the throttle body?
he tried a alot of things but i'm not sure which screw your talking about. I'll ask him to adjust the IAC valve.
dont think our cars have idle air control screws. I believe it is controlled by an idle air control valve which is electronically controlled by the computer.

I would recomend you clean your throttle body with a toothbrush and then reset your ecu by disconnecting your battery for 10 minutes.

This will force the cars computer to relearn the idle and fuel mixture.
I remember him spraying some carb cleaner thingy into the throttle body earlier. Should i try unplugging my battery?
Is your timing set to 10 degrees before?
cracked vacuum hose
Your throttle cable is just too tight...

would a vac leak not induce an unsteady idle (rpm float)

hey, sorry for the late replies, I haven't had time to be on here. I still can't figure out what is wrong. I haven't really tried anything yet. I took it to the mechanic the other day, he unpluged my IAC and my idle dropped to around 900RPM. Anyone think they might know what is wrong?
