Air bags,, - 6G Celicas Forums
umm yea i think it became a safety protocol after 93-94, i think. theres no seperate piece on the dash?? >
> wow.....take a pic! i wanna see >

Uh, flip down your sun visors...it should have a big thing about SRS airbags on the back. Also look on the passenger side, on the dash...that rectangular area? Theres a airbag under it.

NO rectangle on dash and nothin under visors about air bag,, grabed manual and guess what Nothing there either.. Pic a no go cause in a fit of piss offedness my digi cam learned to fly,, no longer works oops LOL
Whoa, thats weird.
Yeah thats what i thought,, and was wondering if I was the only one.. Have yet to find anyone else who has the same thing..

2 things,, a- THANKS for moving it.. b- Yeah I woulda thought so to but gues what they are not there.. Factory steering wheel and factory dash.. Nothing anywhere to be found that the car has/had airbags.. When I bought it I thought it was kinda wierd,, "hmmmm Appparently Celica's don't have em" Thats why when I saw it mentioned elsewhere I jmped on it.. I'm looking for people with the same year to see if they have em..
My car is a '94 GT but is a UK spec car. It definately doesn't have a passenger airbag, just the driver one under the steering wheel. On top of the steering wheel it says SRS to indicate the airbag.
They only fitted passenger airbags to the UK celicas after 97 I think.

Facelift bumper-foglights-clear indicators, clear side repeaters, 16in O.Z alloys, stainless steel grill. JDM facelift tail lights. clear sidelights. Retro-fit A/C conversion. APEX performance springs. Remus exhaust. K&N performance filter. KYB excel G shocks.Hyundai coupe Mk 3 (US Tiburon) leather seats. Gen 7 s/wheel. SR black vinyl door cards. Late spec spoiler-less tailgate with 3rd brake light.
OK so in the manual it does show the air bags,, but there is still no spot on the passenger side for it,, have to check on the steering wheel again real careful like,, BUT I KNOW there isn't one on the pass side..not unless my whole dash is sposed to break apart..
So here's the latest news,, I'm told we (Canadians) didn't have to have passenger side air bags until 96 and only drivers side from 92 til then so that would explain it,,,
it should come with it
=(
You might not have dual airbags then...just the driver side.
Bringing this back from the dead LOL
Well it happened had the chance to test them (it) lol No bags went off and my body man looked at it and said NO air bags in the car at all, not even in the steering wheel like I figured there was. How wierd is that??

Driver airbag was manditory in the states 92 (I think) but was not in Canada till much later. most cars built in NA put them in all cars no matter where they were going just for simplicity. Because the celica is a Japan import, it was an option for most of the life of our cars. Mine is a 94 GT with no airbags, no ABS. Personnaly the early airbags were not that great, the dual stage ones are good now. I am glad I don't have any. Here's to hoping we'll never need them.
Save the driver and kill the navigator hahaha

Hi there, I don't think you are the only one without air-bags - I also have a 94-96 GT Japanese import model, no sign of the logos or indicators on the dash. It's making me worry and slow down a lot (being a responsible parent!)
You reckon there's a way of adding aftermarket twin bags ?

Possibly not. I know the Japanese Celicas typically didn't have a passenger airbag. Do the 3-spoke steering wheels have an airbag? They kinda look too small to contain one.

Mine does. Love my 3-spoke.
98-99 Models 3-spoke steering wheels have airbags. All previous years only have airbags in the 4 spoke steering wheel.
JDM Powerplant installed, BPU coming very soon!
My 94 SSII has no airbags or ABS!
