after this winter im gunna have about 3g's to play with for my car.. I was thinking of going with the redtop beams engine..simply for the fact not many have done it. and i heard its a pretty strong reliable engine, but i kno the 3sgte produces more hp.. which would be harder if u know? and which would u suggest for me thanx..
3s-ge Beams or 3s-gte? - 6G Celicas Forums
If you want something that's more unique, I'd go with the BEAMS 3S-GE, but I think you'll spend much more on the engine, because it's fairly new and not many cars were available with that engine. As far as installation goes, I'd guess that it'd be fairly similar mechanically to a 3S-GTE swap, but the wiring is probably more complex than the wiring for a ST185 3S-GTE, becuase the engine is newer and probably uses more electronics. If you get the BEAMS 3S-GE from a ST202 Celica or a Curren, you'll be able to use that tranny and not have to buy another tranny, like you would if you went with a 3S-GTE.
Either way it'll be sweet, but I think the BEAMS 3S-GE will be more expensive, and it doesn't have the torque all around the powerband like the 3S-GTE does.

If you want to be unique and powerful, you could always do the V6 swap. Though it would be one of the most difficult. To my knowledge, no one has done it in a sixth gen, just a fifth.
For the cash though the beams is for show and not a good bang for the buck, the power only comes through high revs.
Let us know what you end up doing.

The power does not go through the high revs. The BEAMS VVT-i is not what everybody thinks of. There was a deep discussion of this on celica.net that was very explanatory. The BEAMS revs to 7400, only 400 above a 3sgte. The BEAMS can very solidly be placed at 240 hp with a good exhaust and an EMS, not so bad in a car that weighs 2590 lbs. I would take 240 N/A over 255 Turbo anyday, but that's just IMO and why I chose to go with the BEAMS.

guess I should have been more specific. The beams does not have high torque figures and the peak torque is high at 6000 RPM with 159 ft-lbs.
A 2nd gen JDM 3sgte has more torque and is available much lower in the revs: 225 ft-lbs @ 3200 RPM. Gives you a much more streetable engine. Even though it only has 15 more horses, this would give you a much faster car than a beams, assuming you can get traction. Don't get me wrong, I would blow my load every time I opened the hood if I had a BEAMS under there, but I don't believe it is worth the cash.

and boat loads of non traction. For strip purposes I would get a 3sgte with the MR2 tranny /w LSD. Only time I would want that much power/torque would be if I had an actual all-trac, with the AWD to handle it. For twisties purposes, I would take a 3rd gen 3sge and get the SC kit from JapanSpeed in the UK, not to mention the JUN stroker and other goodies. Massive HP and Torque figures aren't always what's going to get you what you want to do. A time and application for everything.
And no it wouldn't. New non-vvti cams = no more vvti. Just a pretty Head cover.

EMS = Engine Management System. A standalone unit, such as the Haltech E6K or E11, can completely control everypart of your engine, and can be tuned to the specs you want. By using a dynometer and this software provided with the unit, you can take full advantage of the mods to your car, and tune the fuel/air mixture for peak performance throughout the power band. Can easily add 30hp just through tuning.

Of course, any EMS will fit ANY car. That's the whole point, it's a stand alone ECU that's non-car specific.
