I was reading my repair manual the other night while changing out my ball joint and tie rod and noticed that it said to be careful not to overextend the cv axle when seperating the steering knuckle. What does overextend really mean? what happens to the cv when its being overextended and what can that cause??? I still have a wierd shuddering clunk off of acceleration so maybe it might be due to my cv axle?

you will tear the boot if u hyper/overextend it. then you gota replace the axel

I jacked my car up today to hunt for that annoying shudder coming from my drivers side and noticed this:



I read the repair manual and found a how-to axle replacement on here, but neither said anything about play on the inner cv joint. Is this normal?? keep in mind that the car was off the ground at this point. even so I dont think theres supposed to be this much play. especially with everyone complaining about the snap ring on the end of the splines

I did you the favor of jacking up my car for the same purpose. there is NO play in my CV axles altho the 5s-ge and s54 are practically brand spanking new (yea i said 5s-ge, go read my thread) they do not move what so ever.

yea you have a chance to tear the cv boot thus you will need to change it. no worries about the axel unless you decide not to change the torn boot.

RESOLVED

The noise that i was hearing under acceleration has been found. finally

however before that happened I took apart the whole drivers side suspension and inspected EVERYTHING. All joints looked good, all bushings looked good, the cv axles are like new, and the suspension looked in great shape too. Frustrated I put everything back together with proper torques hoping that maybe it was one of those things that will get fixed by being taken apart then put together again. So after all that i went for a spin. It was still there... wow was i annoyed. And its not like i could just say f this and sleep all day, i still had a crap ton of electromagnetism to study.

However, I decided to procrastinate on the physics and check some fluids when out of no where the idea struck me to check my home made 'AEM' intake. Guess what, the damn thing would rock back with the engine on acceleration and strike my brake master cylinder, which as you can figure, sends a shock to the pedals. So this whole time I was running in circles looking for a suspension issue when it was just my damn intake! Whats wierd is that I've had this intake on for almost 2 years without any issues at all. Only in the last month and a half has is started to hit. Tonight im going to trim that damn thing, or maybe even put the stock intake back in. I dont care anymore.

either way im beyond happy that this is solved. I racked my brain for weeks as to what could be the cause and couldn't find anything every time I crawled under the car, not to mention the several times I completely took apart the suspension or the balljoint/tierod I had to replace as a result. Oh well I guess there is a lesson in this, but im too tired to put it into words.

haha yea I didn't know what your problem was really but dude our fwd motor rocks back pretty hard man on gas stomp thats why our front motor mounts go out fairly quickly. Is that a custom AEM intake pipe?

I used to work at Advance Auto when i first got my celi and made damn sure I got the aem accord cold air intake for a great price
I was real happy because this site said an accord intake would work without much modification but they were wroooooong. Long story short I have an AEM short ram intake complete with AEM logo and carb-legal sticker
