My rear strut mounts are bad. I just bought a full coilover kit and it comes w/ the upper ball mounts. Heres the dumb question.....you ready? Do i need to replace the strut mounts before i install them or will i not be using them? I needed to replace the strut mounts to pass inspection hence the reason for asking. Any response is appreciated thanks.

your new strut will need to be assembled using the new coilover spring and upper mount before you install it in the car

yeah, i'm slow lol. I just got them today and realized they are assembled with the mounts on them. Hopefully i will get to install them this weekend, if it stops raining which i doubt.
if they have the top mounts why would you need to use your stock components, its a complete coilover system. unless you got coilover sleeves or Teins. if its complete, its a complete remove and install, no reassembling.

This will be my first mod on my celica and suspension mod on any car that i owned, i was just curious and slightly confused but i realized what the assembly consisted of.
Since it is a full coilover kit with pillowball mounts you will be throwing out your entire OEM suspension assembly - including the top mounts.

Props on investing in coilovers, but maybe some wheels should've gone on first.
Good luck with the rear.

I think lowering comes before wheels. At stock height, it looks like you need bigger wheels to fill the wheel gap. After you lower it, a smaller wheel will suffice. Also, how low you are affects what offset you'll need for a flush fitment. But, in this case, at least some hubcaps would have helped
Just playing, Red Phoenix. It's looking pretty good. When I did the suspension on my car, we took a grinder and went to town on the bolts. You'll have to buy new end links, but at this point in your car's life, it needs them anyway.

^ If there are no issues no problems, smooth install will take you 1-2 hrs. You could actually do one side if jack prepped and tire removed about 5 min. Of course if you have the resources and tools, you can jack up the car on all four and have 1 or 3 friends help you, that would make the whole thing less than 30 minutes easy. assuming your friends know what theyre doing. of course, tuning the height and damper are totally seperate from the install time. on the fronts make sure you don;t overextend cvboots.

I could not get the main bolts loosened with regular tools or an electric impact wrench, an air powered impact wrench was necessary. Other than that, pretty easy. Adjusting the height is kinda time consuming, if you don't like the height its set at you have to lift the car up again, take each wheel off, adjust each lock, count the threads, etc.

im new to all of this too, how hard was it to do the coilovers? time tools?
