Celica GT4 Launch - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #69139 10 posts Started by Island_Racer
Ok guys, I just really want to know the most effective rpm to attempt to launch a GT4(stock) and the best shift point for a drag.(for all gears) Please hit this up
hhmm stock launch, best launch is smashing limiter and slipping the clutch, isnt good for the clutch though.

dial up say 6000 and release the clutch and your away.

best shift point is around 7k.

this makes me cringe how long the gearbox/diff will last haha, my friend had a wrx and launched it all the time and got 400k out of the engine and the gearbox was still going, the way he did it was let the clutch slip, rather than dropping it, so all the wear went on the clutch rather than the gearbox, I don't know how true this is.
he didnt mention what is the best for gearbox longevity tongue.gif

when im drag racing i "preload" the gearbox, basically as in staging i pull the handbrake on, then release the clutch ever so slightly so it "loads" up the gearbox ever so slightly, so when you do drop it there is no heavy CLUNK as everything meshes.

I've never dropped the clutch on my st205, scared I might break it... I don't really get to thoroughly enjoy the car like I did with the st202 tongue.gif I hope to throw it down a track some time and check out the end of my 3rd gear aswell as a limiter launch (maybe just once) and hopefully get a 14.0 or something?

Launch control is set at 4800rpm on mine, seems to do the job. 6500rpm is the best shift point as power tends to start dropping off after that but each and every car is different...just get the feel for the car and shift accordingly, there us no hard and fast rule as to when to change gear.

i have been down the strip (ages ago mind you) when the car was standard and i would launch at about 6000rpm and the change at red line now with the new current setup i launch at the same rpm but it's all just wheelspin untill i ease back on the loud pedal but it's so hard not to because it's just so much fun frying all four!!!

as for a standard time down the quarter i managed a 13.5 in standard trim so anything around there i think is a good time.
