Custom Projectors Headlights - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #69129 19 posts Started by yagamius
well since i have my celica i found out about the kouki projectors, and definitely is most for many of us who want to give a nice touch to our cars.

considering where I live is almost impossible to get one of those sets even when I have an address in US that send the stuff I buy there to my country, I dont trust my customs they might crack one of the headlights and they don't get responsible of it mad.gif mad.gif

beside they are kind of expensive tongue.gif tongue.gif

so why not create a the projectors my own for my celica.

I start my search here to find a place that can make the clear lens covers for my headlights in Acrylic or Glass (if i was lucky enough no one works on glass any more or at least here tongue.gif tongue.gif )

finally a found the place that can make the cover lens in Acrylic....

son once that was complete I start my search on the web for projectors with halo ring (sexy) and as always ebay had my answer.

here is my guide

found the perfect kit for my homework:

things that came in my kit

Projectors with white Halo Ring x2
xenon bulbs 6000K x2
HID ballast x2

now that I have the kit and the lens are in the process of creation I start what I called agony

start at my home trying to find out how to remove the headlights off the car, try to fin out some info on the web with no success, when I checked the page was down (three weeks ago)

so first I start checking and realize that I need to remove the front bumper, so front bumper off

after the bumper went off I thought it was done and now i can remove the headlight, but no, Toyota engineer dosen't make for hopes an dreams and I start coursing the assembly line

and why because of this

after taking a break came back to remove the defense of the car

once the defense off the car, finally I can remove the headlights and start with the real deal

now the tools that i use to remove the glass lens of the headlights was my sister hairdryer, Not kidding

after a few burn out with the hot air cuz my dad look to the other side I was able to remove the four lens of the headlights.

just a couple of modifications have to be made to the headlights and is for the halo ring cable

made the little hole with a and saw and then wear down with a rounded file to let the wire go out for the same place

when finish I wash up the headlights to remove all dust and other things and let it dry on air

after that I went to the hardware store and bought dark gray spray No. 17 to spray out the background of the low light

before spray the things out cover the high light reflection with paper, we need that to reflect more light

and sand paper the reflection thing from the low light, we don't need it any more we have projectors now.

sand it with 1000 paper sand and little water

before

after

spray the headlights let it dry and them pull all together

projector and lens

wired the cables for the halo and headlights

by the way for the halo I use the same cables that goes to the side lights, so they no blink when i use the directionals

when the things are wired up and headlights are ready re-arm the front of the car

and judge your self

lights off

with parking/halo light

halo close up

xenon working

this was my work creating my own projectors

and most thanks to my cat who's my partner in crime and the only company that I had during this laugh.gif laugh.gif

by the way this cost me less than $220

that is an absolutely awesome job you have done to make those yourself. Now that you have given the recipe who is the company that did the lenses for you and the halo rings.
Not bad but it looks like the projectors are poking out like its dangling in there. Try to flush the projector lights with the shape of the housing to make it cleaner.

They were made here in Costa Rica by a company who make all kind of Acrylic lens for headlights, taillights, directional, etc.

The Projectors + Halo I found it on ebay, I just check on the guy who sell them and is empty kindasad.gif kindasad.gif this is his store http://stores.shop.ebay.com/Kassabian9898-Car-China

yes, that will be my next step, I'll work on that when I start the body work for the Celi, in the mean time I have a spare headlight to work on the housing to make it better "seat" for the projector

this was my first work doing headlights, and was fairly easy to make, the hard part was to disable the front end of the car, once you have the headlights out of the car the job is almost done.

I need to make new lens since after the crash the left low and high lens break down I have to rebuild them, in case some one want to know the price I can let you know, they are made from High Quality Plastic. after a year and they look like new, no yellow thing from sun or rain.

Do you think it would be possible to replace the gray part with something a little cleaner looking, and that goes all the way behind the light?
I guess the real question is, do they get hot enough to melt plastic.

Great job btw, looks awesome biggrin.gif biggrin.gif
