7A-FE started over revving - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #69069 6 posts Started by IwantaGT4
Hi Guys,

I've got a bit of a problem with My Celica 1.8ST. It has started revving a lot higher everytime I start it up and I havent got a clue why. The tick over is set to about 750-800 revs but its revving at around 1500 when it starts up (never used to do this) and it seems to have lost power (not as quick as it used to be). Any suggestions?

It has a few other issues (exhaust has started blowing a bit but I'm getting a new exhuast to cure that) and the alternator belt is squeaking a bit which is also getting sorted.

Any advice would be apreciated guys smile.gif

Cheers

When it warms up, does the idle drop? My car, from a cold start, idles around 1200-1500 I believe. It'll drop to 750-800 after it's warm.

Every car I've come across idles higher while cold than while warm smile.gif

I wouldn't worry about it.

It didn't do this before? I think that is slightly weird, if so.

my car cold starts @ 1600 rpm and stays there until the temp needle movies or i put it into gear, regular idle is 900-700 for me though.

you'll notice in the winter it may even go HIGHER
Cheers guys,

I havent had the car long so im not familiar with it. I apreciate the advice smile.gif
