How to install an oil catch can? - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #68000 6 posts Started by racer4street
I have some oil in the intercooler piping that causes me to smoke in higher gears (4th-5th) when i let off the gas after being in high boost. I have been told that i need an oil catch can. I just bought the car from a fellow 6gc member: "jcaron9gt4" and when he had it he took the OCC off the car. The motor is a 5sfte. How should i install it? It looks like he had it coming from right after the throttle body going to the catch can and from the catch can to the valve cover. Any help would be great!

Should the PCV be included in this process at all?

I have researched for 2-3 days on how others are installing them but i've seen it done many different ways.

the PCV should be left as normal, and you should have a hose going from the valve cover, to the catch can, and a hose from the catch can, to the intake piping BEFORE the turbo.

Before the intake manifold? Do you know of a link that can show me where?
Ok so i just got my new oil catch can in yesterday and installed it. Holly crap what a difference. I used to smoke everytime i shifted after a heavy boost but ever since i installed it i havent seen any smoke at all. Great buy for the turbo engine. Although i should have probably bought something other than an ebay brand but either way it does the job. Thanks for all the help here on 6gc it only took about 10-15 minutes to install.
How did you end up installing it? My 3S-GTE has an OEM catch tank installed the way pressure2 mentions it, On our ST202 3S-GE we have it installed the way you mention it in the PCV to intake manifold line.

ok can anyone elaborate on how to install the oil catch tank on the 3sge beams. the link for the thread is on the bottom. So from what i understood you plug in one hose to the pcv valve, and the other to the crankcase vent so that both hoses feed the oil into the catch can. right?? and then would you seal off the vent that is on the intake manifold???

I see that the stock vent hose from the crankcase goes to the intake piping, which in turn vents the oil into the intake filter.
