Heat-shrink Tubing for Wire Harness Looming - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #67950 13 posts Started by Dr_Tweak
I've been spending some time looking at different wire tucks and methods of making wiring more clean and subtle. Recently I build a 4AGE 20v Blacktop harness from scratch for a customer, and took the opportunity to loom the harness entirely in heat-shrink tubing (no seams). I think the results are pretty nice and make for a really clean look, but I wanted to get some comments.

I was thinking about this exact thing Doc. Are you planning on shrinking it down at all?? The big thing I'd be concerned with on a turbo swap would be engine bay heat, but if you go to www.waytekwire.com they have a TON of looming options to keep it sane. What you've got there looks awesome though.
Thanks smile.gif

Yeah that acutally is all shrunk down in the pictures smile.gif

looks sweet tweak, how will that stuff hold up to heat over time?

it looks good, but part of the reason why the factory harness uses that thick plastic tubing is to protect the wiring from engine bay heat. right now there isnt much in terms of protection.

I guess I should have mentioned those details. This heat-shrink tubing is MIL-spec, it holds up to 275* direct heat and is flame retardant. This meets or exceeds the corrugated looming that you typically see on engine harnesses.

looks fantastic and keep up the great and innovative work.

Just to give you some more ideas can you think up a way to make mounting the wire to the body of the car more clean? maybe incorporate push pegs/tabs with the heat shrink tubing? just some ideas...
