Hello!

I am interrested to learn how to jack up my car the proper way. I have a car jack as pictured below:



The thing is, i have jacked up my car many times. But I have always been scared to do it a unproper way, which could cause my car dropping off the jack. That must do a great damage to the body?

For example, when I lift my car with this kind of jack, I can hear the car is slipping from the jack, as I am jacking it up. Jesus, I am too scared to do this!

So, what do you guys do? The places where you place the jack underneath the car is a bit dumb on Toyota...

Personally, in the front. I stick the jack somewhere under the a-arms where it looks sturdy. I then stick the jackstand just behind the wheel well where the 2 notches are at. I then repeat on the other side.

In the back I just jack the whole thing up from the pumpkin looking thing in the rear middle. and then place the jack stands at the notched jacking points.

I don't know if its technically correct, but meh... I havent had anything fall or broken anything so far.

the pic below is where you would place your jack on a gt4, but it's the same even for non-gt4's except the rear subframe is different from the awd.

yeah you can place your jack stands on the notches, but another safe location is on the bolts of the front subframe where it meets the lower control arms.

I have my car up on jackstands right now, I used a floor jack on the center engine support to raise the vehicle enough to put 6x6 wood blocks under the tires, then reposition the jack to be able to lift more so I can put the jack stands under the lower control arm attach points not the lower control arms. It's about 16" off the ground at that point. Very stable.

the 4 points that sit right next to each tire is a good place to start. it has the litte hinges so you know exactly where to put the jack stand. Ive lifted up the car so many times that every once in a while the metal that sits under the passenger and driver side makes a loud poping noise from the metal being bent.

Are those 2 ton jack stands each, or 4 ton. If you have a bigger jack that can hold up to 3 tons. that jack is used for trucks. You can put it on the middle of the front center cross member and then place the jack stands on the two hinges that sit on the driver and passenger side.
