Topic #6710 8 posts Started by hyp3rk1d
My dad bought this celica brand new in 1994... now it goes to me.. it has 83,000 miles on it, i was wondering should i change the spark plugs??? the car runs fine, it starts fine and seems to do everything fine... but do u guys think i should get a new set of sparkplugs?? if so what should i get... and will there be ne difference??
83K wow thats really low. When i bought my 94 it had 130,000.
Take them out and have a look. If its not broken, dont fix it. U can clean them and maybe re-gap them but if everything is fine, then just leave em.

when my car is running I check them in my 3sgte every 2 weeks to check for carbon deposits etc... spark plugs are the 1st indicator of bigger problems so check them often and replace them at least every 5-7k miles if not more often

99 project version 3.0.. hello SEMA 2010 =)
plugs dont have to be replaced for like 100k miles... Damn neverstop you change that sh!t often... that must be pricey if your running premium plugs!

anyways changing the spark plugs is what a shop would do if you went to get a tune up. Thats all they do, nothing else! maybe the wires but not usually... Some regular plugs for an ST should run you about $8, the tools, if you dont have any, should be like $5-$20 if you buy a socket wrench, extension arm, and spark plug socket (which is 5/8ths if you were wondering)
I'd replace plugs every (about) 60K...

As for which to get, factory plugs (whatever is mentioned in your handbook) will do just fine.
Depending on your car its either Denso or NGK.

Whatever you do don't get cheap bosch plugs or anything like that. I put those in my car when I first got it, and after 5,000 miles they were all burnt up. I've been running Denso iridiums since then with no signs of wearing.
Denso's are stock, I had the original denso's in my car until about 120,000... I have NGK's now. I would personally never use bosch or split fire, but I dont see why they would suck any more then any other companies.
