So while trying to find a new custom mod for the celica, I think about what other cars have that ours don't. Well the new audi's and even porsche's have the LED light strip in their headlights... well I found this on ebay:

$12.99 with $4.99 shipping.... put these in our front blinker with the clear front lens and give it a shot is what I was thinking. Anyone else think this could work out/look good?

Hey it might look cool I guess it depends on how you pull it off. but it seems like a cool idea

Think I'd end up painting the interior of the reflector the colour of the car to get the look right.

Exactly what I was thinking ......in fact you could also incorporate amber LED's as well as fitting an amber bulb with clear lenses. By keeping the bulb as well, there's no issue of the repeaters flashing double speed.

Already done it on my Porsche and they are the only conversion of this type with both amber and white LED's and bulb. I also replaced the feeble BA9 filament side light with an LED.

I would do a mock up for you, but the only strips I've got are installed in my car.

BTW my strips look quite similar, but are 24 cm long with 24 LED's

I was going to do this but I've seen these on ricer hondas so i decided not to do it.

I had those, seems same appearance but dunno the quality are the same or not
Please don't, once the LED flash and some become DARK, pain in your ass, need to remove bumper and open the lense and remove the LED strap.

IF you are installing these anywhere in your car, test the power source and make sure you're supplying the LEDs with 12V, LEDs are very sensitive to changes on voltage, too low, they'll start flickering and will die soon, too high, they'll just die.

Wolfie, where did you get the smaller strip of LED's? I think our front blinker housing is only like 10"? ( feel free anyone to correct me) So I would need that smaller strip rather than the 30cm one.

Do you guys think the strip of LED"s need an inline fuse or just a constant 12v source?

I would toss in white led's in my side blinkers and the front would get either white bulbs as well to accent the LED strip or I would just use the power source from the front blinker to run the led's so those become my blinkers. I'm still tempted.

Very good points raised by Mr Doggy and Culp.... a lot of LED's require a stable 12v for max reliability. The ones I used came from the U.S from a reseller of my Porsche lenses, but he's being a bit cagey where he gets them from. He tells me they're designed for automotive use and rated up to 16v. They can also be trimmed every 3 LED's. The max length you'd need for the fronts is about 15 cms - I was just lucky the strips fitted pretty near perfect as they came



The lead could be glued to the backing and taken out through the back by way of the vent hole(with the rubber elbow on it)just need to drill it out to 2-3 mm.

However, if you were doing this with my clear lenses and you had a failure of an LED, the lenses don't like the oven temp needed to get them out. If you wanted to do this with the stock amber lens as a modified turn signal, that would be no problem as they don't mind 100 degC in the oven.

For me it was not an issue as in the event of failure, my lenses just unscrew from the backings - not the case for you guys

i had the same idea.. i have two white LED strips if any ones wants to make an offer.. ? thye might only be for the interio tho, becuz i dont see no wrapping around them that would make them weather/waterproof.. ..

hay mate i did this mod to my 99, celica a few months ago, i glued them in under the fog lights on to the front bumper and wired them in to the side lights
they looked wicked for a month or two but some of the leds went on them, so now ive disconnected them,
they came with a weather/water proof guarantee so im currently trying to et my money back!!

i bought pretty expensive ones too!!!
so i think if you cant find actual audi ones its not worth it!!

it is NOT about the quality of your LEDs, is about how healthy your electrical system is.

Unless you make sure you're supply the LED with the required Operating Volts and watts, THEY WILL DIE SOON, it doesn't matter if the LED cost 100 or 1, once you meet the electrical requirements, you'll notice a difference on intensity and that's where the price you pay comes in. quality LEDs are brighter than cheaper ones.
