I need to know the biggest size tire that can go on 17x7 enkies. My celica is lowered 1.5 inches (correctly). I don't want to roll the fenders or anything or any scrubbing.

I'd appreciate any help anyone can give me.


FYI

i'm on my phone and it is currently my only way of 6gc right now so please don't tell me to search because it wont pull anything up on my phone. I have tried many times.

i would go with 225's...but im getting 17x7.5's and im gonna pack 235's under there with a spacer..might rub a little but im not worried about it...if you want to play it safe 225's will fit fine

Are you sure 225's will fit? my old rims had 245/45/17s and they were rubbing horrible before it was lowered. I was thinking 215s because i don't like alot of tire but wanted rim protection too. I just don't wanna go out and buy tires that scrub or hits my fenders. I dont want that much money going to waste.

presure2 has 225/45/17 on 17x7 and dropped 1.5" and rubs on u-turns and deep bumps (nothing major) so if you want absolutely no rubbing go with 215/45/17. some tires such as falkens have a rim protector to prevent curbing

alright. thanks too both of ya'll. the rims came with brand new 205/40 nexen n5000s so inc fun those until I can get the 215s.

with the 225's, it only rubs in the front, against the wheelwell plastic at full lock. and just barely.
if i put 2 people in the back seat (almost never) it will rub in the rear over speedbumps and big potholes ect. (this is on 17X7 rims with a 35 offset.) again, its not a huge deal, i really prefer the ride quality of the 225's over the 215's or 205's, especially with the 40 sidewall most rim deals come with.

7" = 215
7.5" = 225

Never get 205's even for 7" i hated those to death, they look like fag tires. Other than that choose wisely on your series. The rubbing will depend on your offset so factor that in as well. I have 225/40/17 with 17"x7.5" +32 offset and 3" drop. No rubbing issues even on full turn. dont forget its all in combination.

225/45/17 on a 7" rim is a pretty thick tire for that rim and width.

they are 17x7 and they aren't new lucked up and got everything for 300 with brand new tires. thanks for the help guys.

I don't know if its too late to put my input in but i went through the same dilemma as you are but last year. I eventually went with the 225/45/17 tire size over 215/45/17 and the ride is alot better. I rubbed for the first time the other week going down a hill with 3/4 turn hitting a pot hole at 5 mph and it only hit the plastic with one friend in the car. Good luck choosing your tire size!

BTW, I'm running 17x7 rims

im going to just run the 205/40s for now I mean they are new but just until I get enough to buy some 215s or 225s /45 of coarse so that gives me a little while to ponder over the two

i would go for 225 also depending on where you live. I live in around boston, and there's tons of pothole so I rather have the extra tire there for protection. I regret going with 215 cuz it's so loud and noisy and when I do hit a pothole, it fk up my rim like no other... just waiting for new rims now lol

yeah 225-45 ftw.
The only thing you have to be aware of is that the rear wheels can rub with different brands of tires (ever at the same size). You can fix this by having the rear fenders rolled.

Manny - Don't you think it makes the car a lil higher since the overall diameter with tire is bigger than stock diameter? My 40 series tires look just like 45 series.

yes, and i like it.
i can actually fit a jack under the nose of the car.
i also effectively make the gears a little longer cause of the larger tire.
like i said, IMO there are no downsides to the larger tire at all.
its 100% for the better.

Pros
It fills the wheel wells better.
You get better ride quality.
The car sits higher off the ground with less wheel gap.
It looks better.
Your wheels sit more flush with the body of the car.
Better traction

Cons
You might need to roll the rear fenders or cut the rear inner lip of the fender to avoid rubbing.

Personally I will never go back to low profile tires.

I had 225/45/17's on my TC wheels when I sold the car and I never had any issues with rubbing. I had a 1 finger gap all around, but never rubbed at all.

The car was lowered on Sprint springs.

well my seas struts are blown so I lifted my car back up. i.ll post a picture later and would like to know what you think the 205/40s are noisey but it doesn't side too ruff I don't have many pot holes down so ima go with the 215s.

I have 5zigen fn01rc rims 17x8 +35 offset all the way around... and have 245/40 falken azenis st115 tires in the front and 235/40 in the rear. car is lower on tein springs and I have no rubbing issues

no rubbing issues because of a decent offset. drop doesn't matter for rubbing as long as rims have proper offset and width, then again you would have to have really big tires to accomplish that.

so the extra half inch lift from 225/45 doesn't affect handling much? seems like the higher center of gravity would have an impact on performance. Is a +40 offset wheel too high to run 225/45 w/o rub?

WAY more grip with the larger tires.
there is no downside to the larger tires, IMO.
its better all around.
handleing, ride comfort, apperance, is all better with the 225/45's for me.
