Topic #66597 6 posts Started by 3WayStunna
I have just installed my engine back into my car, and somehow the shift linkage that runs from the shifter to the transmission popped out of the bracket ( when i took the engine out i left it in the bracket) anywho, is there a senseible way to re-attatch it back to the bracket aside from hammering it in...which i have tried and it hastn worked kindasad.gif

Im trying to picture what you are describing... i think the best way to help would be to post a pic of the issue you are having.

are you talking about the ring on the end of the shift cable?
well i cant take a pic since my camera is down, but i can draw a picture for you...oh and btw, this is on a 3sgte with the awd trany...

it slides through and is held by a clip, if its not sliding through then its not turned right. if you look carefully you'll see where the hole and the cable thing have a flat spot or 2 that need to line up.

Ohh ok i get it now.... Like bitter just said there needs to be a clip there.

What you do is push the linkage through the bracket's loop until that groove comes out the other end... then just put the "U" shaped clip into that groove to keep the linkage from sliding back out again.

Here is the best picture i could find. the top of the "U" clip is facing the camera. But... Look at the Clutch line, and you can see how it is also held by a "U" clip in the same manner, only its smaller...

hope this helps
yep what he said is right.

if your trying to put it back in, take the clip off if it isnt already, then use the thin cable part to put through the slot in the bracket, then push in and put the clip on.
