WTF?!!!!! - 6G Celicas Forums

Car keeps blowing the gauge fuse and windows will not roll up. Car turns on fine, dome light works, all lights work except on gauge and car alarm will roll windows up when activated. But it keeps blowing the gauge fuse after I put 5 in, all blown up once I start the car. Anyone know what the problem is? I need to be able to fix this asap.

Nevermind. We just taped a few wires not knowing really what we were doing and all of a sudden it works, but we have a 5A fuse in there and so I should go pick up some 10A.

faust...you sure your putting the right size fuse in? you can always go a little bigger...for instance i know this happend to my once or twice...if it calls for a 15..put in a 20...it might help...other then that i wouldnt know why it would keep blowing...unless you are shorting out somewhere under the dash..i.e. lose wire and its shorting out

Sounds like you have a bad ground somewhere, what was the last electrical part you touched or installed ??

I didn't realize you guys replied, I just edited that we taped some wires with electrical tape that we figured might be the problem, although no wires were really exposed. There was a bare wire on my stereo, but it wasn't touching another wire. Anyways, I just taped that one too and my friend taped some other wires and it works now, I just can't figure it out. I have a 5A in there now but after I eat I am going to buy more 10A fuses and put one in. I can't believe my car ate up 10, 10A instantly.

No dont do this! If the factory fuse is a 15A, the circuit is designed to handle 15A. If you replace it with a bigger fuse, you run the risk of melting your wiring harness and setting your car on fire.

If it is blowing instantly, you have a short somewhere, check for pinched wires.

I agree. In fact, when I was about 18 years old an djust had my license, I replaced the car radio, and it kept blowinga fuse. So I put aluminium foil over the fuse, but that blew teh fuse wire on teh battery (prety thick wire), then I soldered a new big wire there, and later in teh week during driving, lots of smoke from under the dash, and teh engine cut out.
I had fried pretty much all the wires under the dash. My dad was not happy!
even though the wire may not be touching another wire, it may be shorting to ground by touching anything metal. the chassis and metal components on the car are basically your ground. i would advise you to find out where the problem wire goes and re attach it or make it so that there is no bare wire and doesn't come into contact with any metal (ground). hit me up on myspace if you need any more help.
