Finished alternator power wire upgrade! - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #65534 7 posts Started by 92-gt
Well I finished it a couple days ago. I used 4 gauge power wire. I had done the ground upgrades a while back and finally got around to doing this.

I got a nifty little fuse holder with a digital voltage display built in. I used a 70 amp fuse.

Here you can see that the only spots you can see the wire is where it connects to the battery and alternator..

Here you can see how I routed it under my intake and master cylinder..

Here is the fuse I got. I need to figure out how i want to hook it up, as you can see I am holding a ground to it, but I dont want it to stay on all the time.
BTW, dont mind the sock, i use it to quiet my alarm down.

Here you can barely see the wire routed behind the intake manifold..

Here it is routed next to the timing belt cover..

And lastly, here it is hooked up to the alternator. I crimped the copper lug onto the wire, then heat shrunk it, and used electrical tape over that.

hook it up like the door lights are. A switch that is NC one side to ground, the other side to your fuse. and have it where the hood presses the switch when its closed. my alarm was wired into a switch like that

Hmm, not a bad idea.. Good thinking man!!
just clean up the wiring and you're good to go, looks a bit messy or wrap it with flex tube like OEM.

Come to think of it, your easiest solution might be exactly that: a door switch from a Celica. It'll have the benefit of looking OEM (matching other switches) and is designed for just this situation -- plus it'll have a rubber cap on it, which you'll want. Location-wise, your two best options would probably be the bolt holding the rubber cushion for the hood (it's actually visible beside the fuse readout in one of your pics) or next to the bolt for the stock battery ground via a new hole.
I actually have some black wire loom coming for it.. lol. I am going to try an make it all look oem. I also have some Pin switches on the way, I am going to try an make one of them work for my setup, and if anyone else ever does this, I will have a couple left over and will be able to hook them up with one.
Well, I got the wire loom on there now, and it looks a lot cleaner.

I need some wire tuckage I think... lol

But it looks better now that there are no more blue wires running around..
