Carfax is very unreliable, best bet would be to bring the car for an inspection..these are also cheap.

an inspection isnt going to tell its previous history though...i think he wants to know if the car has been hit, or in any accidents befor... carfax is reliable...its just not going to tell you that you need to change your brakes wink.gif

What? I beg to differ! A good mechanic will know if a car has been in an accident, geez even I can tell if a car has been resrprayed or fixed up. Carfax relies on information given to to them - they don't go out and look for it, quite simply if a certain insurance company don't send their info to carfax the car will look as if it was never accidented - that's a big let down.

Also company only reports their data at certain time, so you can buy a "clean" carfax car, and then 2 months later re-check it and it will show an accident, because the reports are delayed..I do NOT call that reliable at all.

All I'm saying, get a mechanic inspect the car carfax or not. Carfax is garbage if used as the only way of knowing the history of the car.
