Ebay Cold Air Intakes - 6G Celicas Forums

i bought that before.. its good.. but make sure you buy the one that comes with a K&N Filter.. i believe its only 20 or 30 bucks more.. it is definitly legit.

yeah i bought one off of ebay also, they are definitely worth getting, 30 bucks shipped and you're good to go...dont spend like $200 on some injen intake that does the same thing as the 30 dollar one
I got an intake a few months back from the same company, except it was a short ram, and i love it. it sounds great and it didn't break my bank:)

I got one too - with the K&N filter - definitely worth it from seller chromeintakes! Beat $120 I have spent for an upgrade. Better than short ram and measureable and noticeable difference. I love hearing the "hiss" of the air sucking through the intake. Nice throaty sound. Expect a slight drop in fuel economy though (makes sense - more air = more fuel).

Thanks for the info! So do you have any pic's of how the pipe is routed in the engine bay? I am really interested on how they managed to get it to fit since things are so tight in that area.
OKay, I've been looking for something like this for my 94 celica gt. One question though. . . where does the filter end up??? And how does it fit in? Yesterday I put my stock box in, and my short ram out(just for a change) and it takes a lot of work to get things adjusted in there. Could someone please describe (not in huge detail) the installation??? Any problem areas?

The filter ends up underneath the battery tray. It will fit - trust me - but it does require a little work - not bad though as I think I installed it in less than an hour. You have to remove the cruise control box - if equipped. The intake that I am referring to comes in 3 pieces. It's best, at least from my experience, to first install the piece that hooks to the throttle body, then assemble the piece with the filter. This is where it kinda gets tricky - because of the tight space underneath the battery you have to hold the piece with the filter in the general area of where it will be (underneath the battery) and connect it to the middle pipe. Once you have that piece assembled you can connect it to the pipe connected to the throttle body. You may have to do some manipulation of the pipes to get everything to align perfectly but it's not bad. As I stated I think I had mine installed in an hours time. I suggest that if you do have cruise control to place a small piece of foam pad, or any small piece of cushion material between the intake tube and the cruise control box. I did not do this initially and the result was that the intake tube vibrated against the cruise control box and became scratched up and eventually dug in to the intake tube. Of course it took a couple of months for this to happen but it's better to take preventive measures when you do the install. I can send you some pics if you like detailing what it looks like once installed - that may help you understand how it's done. Thanks.

Oh hell yeah - way better than any short ram that sits at the top of the engine bay right under the hood. The placement of the filter ends up being right behind the two little cutouts in the splash guard on the bottom of your front end - look up unerneath your front end and you'll see what I'm talking about. You'll get colder air from there than you will anywhere else under the hood - not to mention that the cutouts allow air to flow directly at the filter. Yeah just make sure you got a way to filter out water that gets in. I am going to look into these as well.

but it is a genuine company that makes decent parts

To be honest with you I have never had that problem - and mine has been dropped 1.5" with Eibach Sportline springs! I originally thought about getting an AEM bypass that installs inline but didn't because I never exprience any problems with water - and believe me I've drove thru some deep puddles with no problems.

Yeah it is kinda loud - but I love that sound - not to mention that the gains are well worth dealing with the noise in my opinion. biggrin.gif
My short ram sounded like a weed-eater and actually, it sounds pretty awesome, but I'm sold on this one.

any comparisons on what this setup sounds like?

You'll be more than satisfied with the results. Trust me - this won't sound like a weed eater - you will hear a hiss coming from behind the driver fender/front tire - that's the intake sucking air. But you also get a deep throaty sound. Keep us posted.

Read further up this thread for some setup details. As far as installation you just remove your stock intake box - then begin with the instruction detailed above. Sorry no video as mine was installed a year ago. As far as resetting your ECU for the new changes there are some instructions in the how-to articles on doing this.

I bought a Weapon R intake but my first inital choice was the cold air intake from chromeintakes on ebay because thats the only cold intake I could find. I searched high and low. Injen stopped making cold air for our cars LAST YEAR. Which completely sucked. I just wasn't sure about the ebay one and I heard some good reviews about the weapon r so I decided to try it. So far, its ok but I don't like the plastic sound when the air is going in. I think though I'm going to buy the cold air one and swap it out cause the current one is so short and close to the engine. I would rather have the cold air. However, being in Hawaii as well we have a lot of rain on my side of the island and water WAS the main concern. I found a JDM bypass valve for $9.99 off a site. I gotta look for it. I don't understand how it works though? how does it keep the water out? someone said it releases it thru the bypass valve.

Where does the filter go though? I saw two different posts.

well just thinking about it know. all the main guys, like the members that have admin, they should have put a how to guide on how to use the site. like as soon as you enter the site (is there something like that when you first become a member?) and then before you post any new topics. they should worn all new members about posting about cold air intakes!! this things getting ridiculous. but who am i to say anything, w/e right....

yea but we get new ppl on the site evryday and they ask cuz they dont know bout the search button lol

but yea i just got my shortram from chromeintakes with the k&n and its make a diffrence gives a lil boost and engine sounds deeper and the intake itself makes a cool noise lol btw i put it on in 20min easy as hell and i left the snorkel that goe into the fender so it still diverts the air in there

Just a quick question for everyone who has the CAI from Chromeintakes, have you attempted to pass smog, yet? Here in California, some units will pass smog inspection and some won't. If it doesn't you just have to put it back to stock before you test, which is sort of a pain. Also, no problems with check engine lights? Put a RAM air kit on a Tercel I had years ago and the check engine light came on and wouldn't go off until I put it back to stock because it was missing a hole for a sensor...

ok i got a cai from ebay and it came with the hole to put the air flow sensor. if it has a hole to put air flow sensor you'll be fine when it comes around to smog. when i did my smog i passed just fine. guy just told me that it has to have carb sticker. blah blah blah. but he didn't trip out over it.

only difference if you buy a injen short ram intake it comes with a C.A.R.B. sticker. stands for california air resourse bureau. not sure exactly what the b stands for. so injen intake costs $220 and if you make an intake urself it might cost you $100 tops. So in the end your paying $120 for a stupid CARB sticker.
