If the water pump starts to go does it start to make a rattling sound or does it start to leak coolant out? I do know it can leak when it starts to go but does this always happen? On starting my car when cold there is a metallic kind of lets say rattle for now until i can think of a better word to describe it, however its been like this for a while and from what i can see nothing is being affected. From just using your ears it sounds like its coming from the cams or alternator but i used a my ear against a screwdriver and i heard it best when i put it on the oil cooler. Havent investigated much so i was thinking maybe its the water pump as its not far from the oil cooler however i havent had any over heating problems. The sound isnt heavy enough to be something major and my friend has already had a quick goosey at it he said its not a major bearing or anything. You can only really hear it in low revs and when in the cabin you can hear it better i would say and when you pull away it sounds quite diesel'ie.

Did it just go/seize? or was it pretty much still working but just rattling and was there any symptoms like overheating?

They make a nasty rattle sound and if left can seize at any moment.

Aye i know and they can take out ur cambelt, just wondering why it disappears when the engines hot if it is the waterpump

It could be the cam belt itself going bad.

I thought that or the cams themselves may have been loose but i checked them and its definitely not the cams and the belt looks good
