Is this my alternator belt on the way out? - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #64103 5 posts Started by MercuryFree
Hey all, I *think* this is my alternator belt making this noise, but I'm no mechanic so I thought I'd call on your collective wisdom smile.gif. Please don't tell me that it's my *cringe* waterpump *cringe* instead haha. Video and sound quality is average but hopefully you can get the idea...

If it is my alternator belt, is this an easy part to change myself or should I take it in to toyota?
I can't really tell from the videos but usually that belt you are talking about makes the noise, very cheap part and very quick to change. Instead of hearing the noise, stop the car, make sure it is cool and look at the belt for cracks on the inner ridges or even on the outer part. After feeling it and it feels like the lines are cracked, You can also tell it is your belt when you spray belt dressing/conditioner on it while the car is running and the noise stops.

Yeah am told it's $30NZD (like $17USD) for a new one from toyota. Don't have belt stuff but will attempt to get a hold of some I guess, as well as checking it as you say. Cheers smile.gif
