Ok. I know its been discussed thouroghly but i'm not wanting to go through all the threads trying to find out how many ppl's emissions got messed up. This is about the ebay header. I'm wanting to put one in my Celica but i'm not sure if that'd be smart since i've heard it messes up your emissions. I was then told some ppl say it does and some say it doesn't. I want to know how many of you guy's emissions has been screwed up by the ebay header. Input deeply appreciated
If you've used a different header your input is appreciated as well
it really depend on where you live
the ebay header replaces one of the stock cats, so yes it is going to affect emissions
if you use the 98-01 stock camry header (it allows for more flow and is lighter) it comes with that cat so you won't have problems with emissions
I live in Houston, TX. Will it be affected a significant amount?
are emissions strict in TX? they are in PA, i have headers that deleted a cat. i didnt really need to do much tho, changed out the spark plugs and then changed the oil and i passed.

In Missouri if your cars older then a 96 you dont have to take an emissions test

but does it fit straight without mods...

Not from what I've been told - the crossmember on the Camry is in a different location so the exhaust is routed differently. I don't know this to be fact - just what I was told. The person to ask would be Darth Ripley - she owns one of those Camry's as her DD.

on a '98-01 Camry there is a motor mount directly to the left of the header (facing the car)
i call this the "oatmeal can" mount since that's what it looks like to me.
the crossmember is mounted differently which will not allow a Celica 5sfe header or a 3sge header to fit correctly on a Camry.
This crossmember is what allows a 1mz-fe to be a direct fit in a Camry, but not in a Celica.
However, I do know that a Camry header is a direct fit in a 5th gen Celica. In a 6th gen Celica ... I can't say 100% yes or no direct fit. I know the bolts will fit on the head perfectly, but as far as the exhaust goes ... you may have to take it to a shop for some custom work, but shouldn't be a big deal.
1 other point to add ... Unless the Camry is a Cali spec model - there is only 1 Cat in the midpipe, not 2. Fed Models (all other states spec) have only 1 Cat in the Midpipe.
Everyone gets this wrong all the time.
The 3sgte has 2 cats 1 in the Downpipe & 1 in the Midpipe.
As far as emissions goes there is no reason it should ruin your emissions as long as you replace the O2 sensor as needed per regular maintenance.
What the header may do is cause you have a CEL --- this is common in Camry's (not sure about 6gc's) but a J-shaped bung that can be bought at stores online may solve this problem.
I'm going to be buying a header + midpipe (b-pipe) for my Camry soon so I can report back regarding emissions, but it shouldn't be anything that wouldn't allow me to pass easily.

Haveing an OBDII you'll wanna be resetting your ECU; and re"training" the "brain" when you're done; to rid yourself of the CEL that may or may not light up. Then you wont have to worry about getting hit with the sniffer thus releaving you of your problem. Sometimes the CEL will come back; but as ripley said about the 02 sensor bing the issue... So just be fixing the issue and not having the problem.

Easy as pie.
Where in houston are you?

I'm not exactly in houston...just close. lol. I live in Magnolia, north of Houston
So i'm pretty sure i wouldn't be able to reset my ECU..hehe. I don't even know who to take it to or wat.
oh and as far as my O2 sensor goes, i havent had problems with it. lol..how often is its "regular maintanence?"

the name's rook for a reason...i figured i'd have lots of dumb questions.
but yeah thats not hard at all. hopefully i'll put in a header after christmas since the holiday has drained my bank account
Right on. lol. You'll never know untill you ask.

lol y yes...O2 sensor maintance?
Eh... they dont really go bad often... but it's a good idea to change it out every so often. I know that NGK makes a super spiffy one.

But i've still got my stock one sitting on 250,000 + miles so... Depends if you go FI as well. Then you'll be needing a wideband.

k:) oh...and i have heard that the header will heat up alot. I asked and they said something about heat wrapping or painting it. i figured i'd just paint it cus its probably easier...i'm just wondering wat paint to use
With all the prep work and such I dont really see how painting it would be easier. Just heat wrap it use some metal zip ties and your good.

Paint usualy wears quickly on this item.
Most people prefer to wrap them; witch you can, and it's a good idea. Go ahead. it's not needed for say, but it'll help.

alright...dumb question no. 2 (on this thread hehe

):
How do you heat wrap again? err..wat is needed to do so?

High heat wrap... then you'll litterly wrap them up. Use a ceramic paint first. You can leave the paint or wrap; depends on your unique siturataion. The wrap sometimes can cause the headers to rot out faster (primarily the cheap-o E-Bay headers) but it's better than nothing i suppose...
Here... Try this:
CLICKYThis will show you EVERYTHING there is to know about the 6th gen Celica. I'm not trying to be unhelpful here, but the more questions i answer, will lead to more questions being asked; and everything may not get covered. It's best to search out the info already sitting there, there are plenty of pros that know more than i; explaining everything in full. Keyword
HEADER +WRAP and you'll learn all about header wrap.
Have fun.

Just a thought... if you're running in to so much hassles and troubles with your emmisions and such, why not just leave it alone? its not like you're going to get 15 more hps with it anyway? and If you don't add the right exhaust, you're car would sound like it has a fart can. just my 2 cents.
-Derick"In hoc signo vinces." In this sign thou shalt conquer."Gone but never forgotten....
Lol thanks D-Man
oh and the reason i want to do the header is cus i don't wan2 put a fart can on my car. i was gonnna put in a muffler...but that'd just make an obnoxious loud noise. I hate seeing ppl driving around with those on their pos cars and make all that noise. And putting in a header is more than wat ppl have around here. with the kinda money i make...i'm not doing anything big until after i graduate. lol.
How would headers "rot"? Just wondering...You can run a muffler, just get a decent one and run a cat-back.

yeah i've looked into the whole catback thing. lol. i don't have the money to drop the entire thing in. i'd just be happy with the header
oh and i second that question: the ebay header'll rot??
Header wrap holds water. Water + steel = rust Cheaper steel like ebay headers will rust faster.
^^^ thanks. ^^^

k well is the wrap such a good idea then? Does it heat up that bad? its not like i have anything special under the hood...my car's pretty stock. i mean i'm slapping on my SRI here pretty soon but thats it..

no, the wrap is very efficient actually, But it has it's previously stated drawback. It depends on the quality of the header that you get; and how long you're trying to make it last. I've seen alot of people with wraps and they're perfectly happy with it; then some people (usualy with the e-bay headers) will cuss them to no end. But if you're getting ebay stuff, then you should expect for it to be ebay quality. obviously more expensive (higher grade steel) headers are going to last MUCH longer and have less problems later on in life. It's all up to you and what you're buying dude.
